Chapter 39: Lost in The Taste of Her

As I paced my office, my mind still reeling from the revelations about Sophia's betrayal and the mystery of Layla's disappearance, my phone buzzed with an incoming message. I glanced at the screen, my heart skipping a beat when I saw it was from the informant I had placed in Marco's circle.

With trembling fingers, I opened the message, my eyes scanning the words with increasing urgency. "Layla is with Anton in the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas,” it read. "Marco knows, and he's on his way to get her now."

I felt like I had been punched in the chest, the air rushing out of my lungs in a painful gasp. Layla was alive. She was with Anton. And Marco was going after her.

I read on, my heart pounding in my chest as I took in the rest of the message. The informant had included a phone number–the one Anton had used to call Angela. It was the final piece of the puzzle, the confirmation I needed that they were all connected.
