Chapter 58: Not For a Million Mansions

*Layla*

For the next few days, I tried to put both Dante and my mother completely out of my mind. I just tried to focus on the tasks that needed to be done to secure my freedom.

Tamika sent a message needing me to take photos and sign documents in my new name for my new identity. Luckily, I could cover those outings under the guise of prenatal care, buying new clothes to grow in, or shopping for potential furniture.

It was while I was getting headshots taken that Dante surprised me with a sudden phone call.

"Layla," he said softly, his voice thick with emotion. "I need you."

I felt my entire body pulsate. He needed me.

It was on the tip of my tongue to confess that I needed him too.

But before I could regain my composure, he continued.

“I need you to come and take a look at this house that I’ve decided on for you. There is enough time left in the day for you to sign the paperwork and it will be yours. You can move in today.”
