It had been over a week since I’d last seen Rory, and it was grating on me hard. I tried ignoring it, but she was always at the back of my mind. 


“I haven’t seen you and Rory hanging out much,” I said casually, not revealing any of my inner turmoil over her. 


Needy made a face. “She hasn’t really been coming to school lately.” 


That definitely caught my attention. Rory was one of the school's top students, and I knew she studied hard. I couldn’t think of why she wouldn’t be attending school. “That seems unusual. Why stop going in the middle of the school year?”


“Probably because she’s a thief, or at least she was accused of being one.” Needy looked up at me with an innocent smile on her face. “She stole Sophia’s necklace. It looks just like the one you gave her.”
