Chapter 117: Greedy for Money

Seeing William swear on his surname, the mercenary captain felt a bit relieved. His eyes darted as he said, "Alright, one question for one million dollars, Mr. Devonshire. I'm about to die, I need to earn some money for my family to live on."

William stared in astonishment at this money-grubbing guy. God, am I being too lenient?

The mercenary captain, seeing the change in William's expression, quickly added, "Okay, if you won't pay, then fine. William, you don't know how expensive it is to raise kids. If it weren't for my three adorable children, I would have retired long ago and wouldn't have taken this damned mission. Two million dollars to hunt you, Satan himself, is a huge loss. I really want to ask my employer for more money."

William couldn't help but laugh, reminded of Barney and Yin Yang's complaints about raising kids. "Buddy, it's a pity you're not an actor. Even on the brink of death, you're still putting on a show. Did you forget I can hear your heartbeat? When you mentioned three children, your heartbeat didn't change, and your expression didn't match someone with kids. Acting is still just acting; your eyes didn't show any fatherly affection."

Hearing William's words, the mercenary captain cursed, "Damn, you don't have kids, do you? How old are you?"

Seeing William ignore him, the captain continued, "Alright, I don't have kids, only two elderly parents. If I die, there's no one to take care of them. So, one million per question until you're satisfied."

"Alright, this time I believe you a bit more. Your heartbeat did speed up. One million per question, and I'll have cash delivered to your parents. Don't think I'll transfer it to you; I'm not that stupid to leave a trail. So, one last warning: no more tricks."

"God, are you really not even 20 years old? How can you be so shrewd at such a young age?"

William had no intention of actually paying this guy. Anyone can act; let's act together. "Okay, seeing as you're about to die, if you satisfy me, one million per question."

"Thank you, Mr. Devonshire. I knew you were a good man. Ask away, I'll tell you everything I know."

Amused, William laughed, "First question: Who hired you?"

Without hesitation, the captain sold out his employer. "The Order of Light."

William monitored his heartbeat, which remained steady. "Second question: How did you track us here?"

This time, the captain hesitated before biting his lip and answering, "Fashi."

"What? The French Bull? How did he know my whereabouts? Why did he betray me?" William asked in shock.

"We didn't follow you to Ireland; we followed Sophie and Langdon. We wanted to track you but lost you. Eventually, Fashi found Sophie and Langdon's trail, so we followed them."

"Damn those two," William cursed upon hearing this. "Last question: What's your employer's name?"

"Aringarosa, the Black Bishop of the Order of Light."

"Good. I'll arrange for 4 million dollars to be delivered to your parents. It's time for you to go. If you handle it yourself, I'll add another 100k for your parents." William picked up an M92 from the ground, ejected the magazine, loaded a single bullet, and tossed it to the captain.

The captain asked with regret, "You really won't go after my parents?"

William nodded seriously, "Of course not. I'm not a psychopath. We have no personal feud. If not for the secrecy, I might not have killed you at all. Pity, buddy."

"Alright. My parents live in Houston, on Green Street. My name is Colin Farrell Gleeson. My father is Brendan Gleeson, a big guy with blonde hair, looks serious but is quite funny. You might recognize him when you see him. My mother is..."

"Enough, buddy. I don't want to know about your parents. It'll only make me a bit more guilty. But too bad you're not a beauty, so just a tiny bit. Time for you to go." William was getting annoyed. This guy was a chatterbox. "Or should I help you, save 100k?"

"NO, NO, I'll do it myself. God, I'm only 27, haven't even married, and now I'm going to meet you. Oh, right, I guess I can't get into heaven. Suicides go to hell. I should've listened to my mom and stayed home after retiring. Goodbye, Mom."

With that, he put the M92 in his mouth, looking longingly at the sky. Seeing this guy gaze at the sky so affectionately almost made William reluctant to kill him.

But this longing lasted for five minutes. Annoyed, William shouted, "Damn it, can you hurry up? Satan's waiting for you, buddy."

"Alright, Satan, here I come. Hope I find a succubus for a wife. Mr. Devonshire, please keep your promise. I'll be waiting for you in hell. See you soon."

Colin took another loving look at the sky. But this time, before William could get angry, he bit his lip and pulled the trigger. 'Click'. Colin fell back, his hands limp, staring blankly at the sky.

After a minute, Colin's eyes moved. "Hmm, why can I still see the blue sky? Is my soul out of my body? Must be. God, the sky is so blue. I've never seen it this blue before. Wish I could stay like this forever. Too bad my time is short. Satan will come for my soul soon. What a shame, so much money unspent."

Suddenly, he felt a kick. "Get up if you're not dead, idiot. The gun didn't fire. Are you addicted to acting? I should kill you, fool."

Colin turned his head and saw William smiling at him. Realization dawned. "Yeah, no gunshot. So, I'm not dead?"

He sat up, checked himself, and exclaimed joyfully, "I'm really not dead. God, why am I not dead?"

William rolled his eyes, knowing he had secretly placed the bullet in his storage space. "You don't need me to help you meet Satan, idiot. Get up. Since you're not dead, you have work to do. Don't think I'd really give you 4 million for a few questions. If you want the money, help me kill your employer or take this guy to your employer."

William turned to Carlos, who understood immediately. Using this fool as a guide would save a lot of trouble. Plus, this money-grubber seemed competent. His willingness to commit suicide for his parents' safety suggested he could be controlled. If not, they could kill him after dealing with the Order of Light.

Carlos nodded at William.

Seeing Carlos agree without hesitation, William felt pleased. Henry must have really saved Carlos's child; otherwise, Carlos wouldn't still be loyal ten years later.

Colin, excited by the prospect of earning 4.1 million, quickly agreed. "No problem, Mr. Devonshire. As long as there's money, I'll do anything. I'll cooperate fully with this gentleman. Seeing as you spared me, I won't charge you for this job. But Mr. Devonshire, could you pay an advance?"

This guy was truly greedy to the end.

Who do you think Colin is? Thanks.
