After leaving the castle, William slowly walked towards the castle garden, pondering how to handle Amir Bakawi's group. He wanted to achieve his goals but couldn't allow these guys to completely destabilize England—if there was going to be chaos, it had to be controlled.
"Sunday, have the Phantom come over. I'll be waiting for him in the garden."
"Understood, sir."
After only a few minutes in the garden, the Phantom's figure appeared behind William.
"Go handle something for me," William said without turning around. "This should be your specialty."
"Yes, sir," the Phantom replied respectfully.
William tossed him a USB drive and said, "Go to Broad Street in London. There's an unfinished building there. The people hiding inside are the same group as the desert men you dealt with last time. Once you find them, insert this USB into their server for ten seconds, then monitor them covertly and wait for my orders."
"Understood, sir. I'll take care of it." The Phantom didn't ask why or how William got the information; he simply accepted the task and disappeared into the shadows.
Finding Bakawi's group wouldn't take much effort. With Black Blade drones and a drone carrier, plus William's suggestion to Sunday to monitor the electricity usage around abandoned buildings and compare it to past data, Black Blade drones identified the abandoned building in central London within a night. Then, spider robots were deployed inside the building for surveillance.
In the past, William might have directly eliminated these people for repeatedly targeting him. But now, he actually hoped Bakawi's plan would proceed. He would even secretly help Bakawi in the early stages to avoid his plan being exposed prematurely.
At the same time, for the safety of his mother and Abigail, he planned to take them to Siche Castle for a while, avoiding suspicions after the attack. However, Siche Castle had no defense systems, so he decided it was safer to return to Devonshire Castle, his stronghold, which was far more secure than his estate in London.
He could easily explain the move: he had just purchased 34,000 acres of land that required management, and with the construction of the stables, there were plenty of tasks needing attention. Asking his mother and Abigail to help at the castle wouldn't raise suspicion.
But there was no need to rush. William remembered that when Bakawi attacked London, it was during the funeral of Prime Minister James, and leaders from countries friendly to England were present. This prompted Bakawi to target them. Since James' funeral hadn't yet begun, there was no immediate need to act. Otherwise, his mother might stay at the castle too long and grow anxious about Chelsea's affairs, prompting her to return to London.
Still, it was necessary to inform Antonov and his team. "Sunday, tell Antonov and his team to prepare to return to Oxford. Once I give the order, they need to bring my mother and Abigail back immediately."
"Yes, sir."
William was confident that Antonov, with his experience, would be on high alert and ensure his mother's safety.
The next morning, after William woke up and finished breakfast, Sunday reported, "Sir, the mission you assigned to the Phantom was completed at 3 AM last night. All of Bakawi's group's servers in London are now under my surveillance and control.
From the video feeds, it appears that the abandoned building on Broad Street is their headquarters. It not only houses a large number of armed personnel and ammunition, but Amir Bakawi's three sons—Kamran, Raza, and Nasser—were also spotted there."
"Have you located Amir Bakawi?"
William wasn't too concerned about Bakawi's three sons now, believing the building was likely swarming with spider robots. He could eliminate them without any direct action—just wait until they were asleep, and the spider robots could finish them off. His main concern now was Amir Bakawi, who was still in hiding.
"Not yet, but as soon as he contacts his sons in London, we'll track him."
Not finding Bakawi was frustrating. After thinking for a moment, William said, "Put the entire Expendables team on standby in London. Also, have Cross Carlos come to the castle. Make sure he brings that money-loving idiot with him; it's been a while, and I want to see the results of his training." William then shared his secret code for contacting Cross with Sunday.
"Understood, sir."
Soon, William's phone rang. "Sir, it's Mr. Carlos."
"Put him through."
As soon as the call connected, William heard Carlos' voice. "Something happen, William?"
"Yes, some trouble. I'm calling you in as insurance, just in case something goes wrong. But this time, you won't need to show your face—just provide remote sniper support."
"Understood. But I'll only arrive tomorrow. I'm currently in New York," Carlos replied.
"New York?" William quickly deduced why. "Checking up on Wesley?"
"Yes. I secretly visit him in New York every year," Cross said happily. "Wesley recently got a girlfriend, and they seem to be getting along well. I hope they get married and have kids soon."
"Ha!" William chuckled, silently thinking that Wesley in his current state was hardly marriage material. But he didn't say that out loud. "Don't worry, that day will come. I just hope you won't be overwhelmed by too many grandkids to hold."
This made Carlos laugh heartily. "If that day comes, I'd die happy."
"Enough with the death talk. When you get here, I'll treat you to some good wine. That's it for now."
"Alright, alright, my bad," Carlos said, knowing William was scolding him for his careless words but still feeling pleased.
Carlos thought William was showing concern, but in reality, it was a mix of concern and the desire not to lose a top-tier sniper.
After ending the call, William sat down on a bench in the garden and suddenly had a thought. Amir Bakawi had sent two waves of people to try and kill him, all because of the bomb detection device he invented.
But what if Bakawi's group avoided using bombs because of the detector? Would things still unfold as they did in his memory?
That wouldn't do. William was waiting for Bakawi to blow a hole in the Devonshire Square buildings, giving him a reason to demolish them. He needed to find a way to locate Bakawi and distract him from the bomb detector.
