The tension was high. All of them knew that it was only a matter of time — when that beast would get spotted and all hell would break loose.
Nyx stayed with Acher and Seren just to the side of the stairwell. A small wooden door was positioned facing the north, out onto a small flat section of the roof and overlooking the front of the building. Any moment now, they'd all have to rush out and face the music.
Just as the plan ordained.
The silence was almost haunting; So strong Nyx could begin to feel a strong pounding in his chest. He clenched his fist, taking in a deep breath before exhaling nothing but pure anxiety.
In the dark, isolated part of the church, things almost felt normal. For just a moment, it felt as though his entire worldview hadn't collapsed. The ground hadn't caved, and he was somewhere safe. Somewhere where a Terror wouldn't be lurking around every corner. Somewhere where he could rest.
Of course, this was nothing but a convenient lie he told himself. He was in a run-down church, at the bottom of a canyon, deep within Terror hunting grounds.
And the time of its arrival had finally come.
The moment Nyx had heard Silas' screech, he could feel his own heart drop. "IT'S HERE!" He roared out, sending a deep shiver down everyone's spine.
Without any hesitation, Seren churned his body around, gritting his teeth as he bashed the side of his arm against the door.
It slammed against the outer wall, nearly looking as though it'd fall off of its hinges. "Come on!" he screamed, prompting Acher and Nyx to follow in pursuit.
They ran just to the edge of the roof's ballast, peering down in expected agony. Sure enough, its hulking figure lurked its way forward, gruff and demonically deep gasps pricking up with every lumbering step.
It stood near the statue at the plaza's center, seeming committed to walking past and beyond into the unknown.
They weren't going to let that happen, and as far as they were concerned, it was nearly guaranteed.
Everything was planned from the start.
The beast, just on the verge of vanishing into the depths of the dark city, came to an abrupt halt. Something had pierced into the side of it, though was quick to erupt into flames, melting into nothingness with the spew of lava to cover over its ashes.
The one who had made the first move was Silas.
Pulling the bow back, he subtly began to stringwalk whilst giving a deep breath. In an instant, his hands loosened against the twine and the arrow shot forth with ungodly speed — the wind barely having enough time to part from its tip.
Upon contact, the beast gave a low growl. Slowly it turned, lava leaking from its side only for the wound to heal moments later. They had gotten the creature's attention, and now it was coming straight for them.
Despite its slow speed, the group didn't taper off into sluggish movements to try and conserve energy; Now that its gaze was placed on their being, this was do or die.
Seren stood just on the precipice of the roof, mere inches from sliding off. He jerked his head back towards Silas on the tower above. "Don't stop shooting, Robin Hood-!"
Carefully did he aim his sights down towards the beast. He waited with immense precision, not budging until the beast was only a hair's breadth away. The second it began to lift its arms to try and pull him down from his perch, that's when he struck.
With two loud bangs, the hammers on his guns slammed downward, emerging from the barrel being large metallic bullets that perforated straight through its skin.
Small bits of shrapnel pounded off from its hull, threatening to nearly shoot back and pierce into Seren — and some did.
Even still, he stood with an amount of pride and unwavering strength that felt unbreakable. By some hefty miracle, none of the pieces managed to seriously wound him, merely scraping against the side of his body and face as blood began to sneak out from his wounds.
The Terror shrieked out in pain, taking a few steps back as its head practically burst open from the wound. Of course, the damage was only temporary. Moments later, the creature was fully healed once again.
"Tsk," He muttered, rushing back towards the rest of the group, "You two, do it now!"
Not even a second later, Both Acher and Nyx boomed forward, stepping just up to the edge of the roof before pouring the bucket in their hands downwards.
Of course, the buckets were filled with water. Freezing water.
They couldn't even spare any time to see the effects of their work, as Seren called them back in immediately afterwards. "Run to the tower! Let this fucker come to us-!"
As they turned, all they could hear was the violent sounds of vicious steam terminating off form the Coalescence. They rushed back into the decrepit stairwell, Nyx trying to listen out for any cues on its movements.
And just like they expected, The sounds began to move. The beast began to hulk towards the front door.
And of course, they already had a special someone waiting for its appearance.
