CHAPTER 40 The Price of Betrayal

  Lewis' POV

  I sat at my desk, trying to complete the task that Alfie assigned me for the day. But lately, I couldn't focus on anything because of Lottie.

  My comfortable life had slowly turned into a muddle, and I didn't even know where or when the problem started.

  "Lewis! God! You won't believe what I just heard!" Jennifer burst into my private study, her face flushed with excitement. Her disrespectful behavior made my anger rise instantly.

  "Get out! I'm not interested in your useless gossip." I pounded my desk in frustration, my impatience clear in my tone. "Jennifer, this is your last warning. Knock before entering my private study!"

  Clearly intimidated by my attitude, she stood frozen at the door.

  "Lewis! What's gotten into you?!" A few seconds later, she yelled at me with a hurt expression. "It serves you right that Lottie left you for Alfie!"

  I stood up abruptly from my chair. "What did you just say?"
