CHAPTER 39

  "What exactly do you want me to do?" I ignored him as he yelled. I walked away from him, unsure of where I wanted to go or where I wanted to be. Being inside with my family was like suffocating in hell, while being outside brought me no peace.

   

  "I've tried everything I can think of; I've done everything I could have done, but you're still stubborn. What else do I do?" He roared, and I could hear his footsteps rushing across the grass towards me. I tried to walk quicker and out of his reach, but I couldn't because my knees were too weak.

   

  "Nalani!" He called, and his voice was louder as he grabbed on to my arm from behind, turning me until his face was directly staring at mine. His jaws were tensed as he watched me, and as he watched the tears flow freely down my cheeks,

   

  "Please don't ignore me." He begged, his eyes closed, his tensed muscles softened, and his grip on my hand softened as he sighed.

   

  I was silent, dwelling in my pain.
