CHAPTER 84

  LARA'S POV

   

  "This is wrong!" I could hear the pounding of my heart in my chest, begging to be set free and aching to be seen and heard.

   

  My breath rose and fell, tears streamed down my cheeks, and my eyes burned, swollen from the hours I'd spent crying all night.

   

  How could they do something like this? Why have they only harboured evil thoughts for their daughters? Why have they raised us only to use us as tools and discard us in the future?

  "Why?!" This time, my voice was louder than I had expected it to be. The rage that was coursing through my veins was unmatched, but every action I took and every step I took only led to me being slapped by my Nana.

   

  "Shut up!" Her hands swiped across my face as she slapped me yet again. Her face held no remorse for the lives of her grandchildren; all she knew and cared about was power.
