CHAPTER 69 Infatuation

  Brett's POV

As I maneuvered my car into the driveway, I couldn't help but feel a surge of relief wash over me. It had been a long month filled with deadlines, meetings, and taking care of my autistic mate.

  Well exmate though.

I induced her with antidotes that will keep her asleep and stabilize them for as long as I'll be gone.

Slowly, I stepped out of the car and made my way toward the front door, the sound of my footsteps echoing in the quiet evening. Just as I reached out to grab the doorknob, Jennifer ever so ever-energetic

appeared from the kitchen. With a smile that could light up the darkest room, she rushed towards me, her eyes filled with joy.

"Brett!" she exclaimed, her voice overflowing with excitement. "You're home!"

Caught off guard, I braced myself as Jennifer enveloped me in a bone-crushing hug. The weight of my day slowly melted away as her arms tightened around me, reminding me of the love and warmth I found within these walls.
