CHAPTER 74 Find Your Feet

  ~ JESSE ~

When I finally found the strength to raise my eyes and sit up, my legs were over Rake's thighs where he sat with one of his thick arms on the back of the couch, the other elbow leaning on the couch arm behind me, and his face… his face was a picture of worried grief.

I didn't realize his hand was on my back until he moved it, catching my hair in his fingers and pulling it back over my shoulder as he sighed.

  "I'm so sorry, Jesse."

"Wh-what for?" I inhaled deeply, still trying to get control.

"Because I saw this coming and didn't stop it. I should have stopped it. I should have stepped in when he wanted to marry you and… I should have stopped it," he repeated dumbly.

I frowned and made myself sit up and look right at him.

My whole body felt weak. Deflated. Limp, with no strength to even move.

But this man… this good, godly man, was staring at me like he was the one who'd hurt me- and like he'd do anything to change it.
