Chapter 21

As the battle raged on, the rooftop became a battleground, with screams and clashes filling the air. We fought with all our might, every swing of our weapons a desperate attempt to hold back the relentless tide of undead.

But no matter how hard we fought, the zombies seemed to keep coming, their numbers overwhelming. We were pushed back, forced to retreat to the far end of the rooftop, our backs against the wall.

"We can't keep this up," Ellis yelled over the chaos, his voice barely audible above the cacophony of moans and roars. "We need to find another way out!"

Mr. Alex nodded grimly, scanning the rooftop for any sign of escape. "There's a fire escape on the other side of the building," he said, pointing towards the far corner. "If we can make it there, we might have a chance."

With that, we made a break for it, dodging and weaving through the throng of zombies that stood between us and our only hope of escape. The air was thick with the stench of decay, and the ground slick with blood and gore.

As we neared the fire escape, a particularly large zombie lunged at us, its outstretched arms grasping for any purchase. But before it could reach us, Miu stepped forward, her makeshift spear held firmly in hand.

With a swift motion, she plunged the spear into the zombie's skull, sending it toppling to the ground with a sickening thud. We didn't have time to celebrate, though, as more zombies closed in from all sides.

With renewed determination, we fought our way to the fire escape, each step bringing us closer to safety. But just as we reached the bottom of the stairs, a loud rumbling filled the air, followed by the sound of metal twisting and bending.

We looked up to see the fire escape collapsing under the weight of the zombies, the stairs giving way and sending them tumbling to the ground below. Our only escape route was gone, leaving us trapped on the rooftop with no way out.

"We're surrounded," Kaori said, her voice trembling with fear.

But just as despair threatened to consume us, a voice echoed through the chaos, cutting through the noise like a beacon of hope.

"Over here!" a familiar voice shouted, followed by the sound of gunfire.

We turned to see a group of survivors emerging from the shadows, their weapons raised and ready to fight. Among them was a figure clad in black armor, wielding a sword with deadly precision.

"Who are they?" Ellis asked, his eyes wide with disbelief.

"I don't know," Mr. Alex replied, his gaze fixed on the newcomers. "But right now, they're our only hope."

With that, we joined forces with the mysterious newcomers, fighting side by side against the horde of zombies that threatened to overwhelm us. Together, we stood a chance, our combined strength and determination a force to be reckoned with.

As the battle raged on, I couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope stirring within me. Maybe, just maybe, we could survive this after all. But as the saying goes, hope is a double-edged sword, and only time would tell if it would be enough to see us through the darkness that lay ahead.
