The dance ended rather pleasanly. Max and Valerie got to dance, something they never had the chance to do in their high school days.
The reason Valerie wore blue was so that she wouldn't steal the show from the young ones but with her and Max on the dance floor, that effort proved abortive.
They caught the eye of everyone with the waltz they had only ever practiced in the bathroom. Literally.
It was blissful and at the end of it, they walked to the back of the school where there was a glowing waterfall. There, they found a boy confessing to a girl and watched the start of a new relationship.
They stood in a position that was difficult to spot in the darkness, chatting about life and how it would've been if they had come to Cambridgeshire together.
They would've probably been the most popular students and couples since they would definitely date each other. Or so they said.
