"The dinner is over… for the two of you."
Mr. and Mrs. Davis frowned, deeply displeased by Charles's remark. It wasn't that they wouldn't leave, but this involved their son as well. Moreover, the way Charles said it felt insulting—like he was kicking them out.
How rude.
"Mr. Bennet, I don't understand what is so wrong with our presence," Mrs. Davis said, stepping forward. "As a parent, you should understand us better than anyone. We are doing our best for our son and for this family meeting."
"Then your best is not enough."
This time, Allison spoke. Her voice was gentle yet firm. The Davises turned to her, but her expression remained composed.
"As a parent, I had hoped you would understand us more than anyone," she continued, "because I doubt you would appreciate it if we treated you the way you've treated us tonight."
