Characterization

Noah, resting on his hospital bed, suddenly found his mind launched into Arcane, a white plain space with a seemingly endless expanse. The system interface appeared again, telling him to customize his avatar. Walking closer to the system window, he stared at his character's current customization.

He observed the current customization and edited only his name. Noah believed he was satisfied with the way he looked and didn't need to change anything else.

"Now, all that remains is for me to choose my class," he muttered to himself.

He began selecting his class, scrolling through the class menus, refusing to pick any that would make him stand out too much.

Suddenly, a message popped up on the system window, stating,

[Player you have been given a bonus gift for being the game's 10 millionth player].

[Claim] or [Reject].

Noah, seeing this pop up on his screen, thought he was somewhat lucky and said, "Hmm, why not," and accepted it, only to be surprised that nothing had actually changed.

Experiencing this, he thought it was a bug or maybe the gift is only active in-game, so he decided to go back to selecting his class.

As he exited the system message, he noticed his class had been selected as a healer.

[Healer?]

Disturbed by the symbol next to the class, he tried selecting another class. He pushed the 'next' button the first time, but it didn't respond.

He tried again, repeatedly pushing the 'next' button until his anxiety began to rise.

"Why can't I change my class? What's going on?" he wondered aloud, then he noticed a lock symbol next to the class selection buttons.

"Why is it locked? Is this some kind of bug? But why a healer of all classes?" Noah complained, thinking mother nature was finally here to draw the curtains on his life as a player.

The 'Healer' class was basically one of the weakest classes, if not the weakest. As a beginner, their attack damage was typically in the single digits, and their HP was nothing to brag about.

Their basic active role in any party was to provide HP recovery to their teammates, and some people even preferred health potions to having a healer in their party.

They were basically disposable most of the time and the worst class Noah could pick, considering he planned to do things solo.

The system message appeared: [Player has successfully customized his character and will now be sent to "The Tutorial Village."]

Noah cursed under his breath, "Shit!" and was suddenly teleported into the village near a big tree at the center of the village, wearing a white healer's leather robe and holding a wooden staff, both items were common grade.

In front of him was the view of a remarkable 'tutorial village,' with players wandering around, buildings everywhere, and NPCs acting as if they were actual people in the real world.

[A/N: In-game he will be called 'Reed' while in the real world he will be called 'Noah.']

Reed settled down, knowing there wasn't much he could do about his current situation, and decided to focus on finding a method that would properly allow him to level up.

The only option he had was one he wasn't quite ready for: he had to rely on others in order to take on quests.

Reed had his own fair share of gaming experience in his life, so the concept of what to do wasn't new to him.

Standing next to the tree wasn't going to solve his current problem, so he had to find a tavern that issues out the quest in the tutorial village.

Letting out a deep sigh, Reed began to walk away from the tree in search of the village's tavern. He passed a general store.

The shopkeeper, a woman with brown hair tying a black apron, was interacting with a customer when Reed approached her asking where he could find the village's tavern.

The shopkeeper responded politely, quickly pointing him in the right direction.

Reed thanked her and continued to on his way, until he saw a building called "Tina's Tavern." He opened the front door and entered inside, finding the environment busy, with tables and chairs filled with drinks and other players interacting with one another.

Voices and laughter could be heard loudly. Some players, stopped to look at Reed, surprised there were others stupid enough to still pick the 'healer' class. The players hissed at him.

Reed pulled down his hood, covering his face even more. He walked up to the bartender, a woman named Tina, a likable woman with an easygoing personality.

Reed asked, "Hey, are there any quests for healers?"

Tina tilted her hips, tapping her index finger on her chin. "Currently, I doubt it, but there was a group of people recently looking for a healer. You could join their party if you'd like."

"Sure, where can I find them?" Reed asked.

"They should be at the entrance of the village by now, ready to venture into the forest," Tina explained, cleaning a wooden mug.

"Thanks, I owe you one," Reed exclaimed and rushed out of the tavern.

"But be careful; you're only level one," Tina advised, but he had gotten too far he didn't hear her.

He exited the tavern, thinking he was onto a nice start.

Suddenly, an icon pops up on the screen, and Reed clicks it, opening up a map showing the entire village and displaying his current location.

Following the map, he thinks of how his life as a healer was going to be like. He needed a party he could trust to carry him during battles so he could level up.

Reed hadn't had anyone to talk to recently except his father, so his social skills were dull at best, and he desperately needed to talk to someone if he planned to join their party.

Arriving at the entrance of the village, he sees the party standing next to the gate, a male player from the 'Warrior' class shouting desperately in need of a healer. "Is there any healer who would like to join our party?"

But he was quickly disrupted by a party member, a mage who had grown tired of his loud voice. "Simon! Not so loud." She protest.

He turned and apologized for being too loud and not paying attention.

Reed observed them, thinking their party of three wasn't too bad, and so he summoned up enough courage and approached them.

The 'Warrior,' dressed in iron armor, common grade, rested on his back with his iron sword. He turned and looked at Reed, asking if he was a healer.

Reed replied with grin, "Yeah, I hope you don't mind if I crash your party."
