CHAPTER 40

"I was on the date with Ji Xiting, we were in the restaurant waiting for our order when Xu Kai stormed in and grabbed my hand. I haven't even talked to him since yesterday, I don't even know what to say." Cheng Xiao said looking down.

"What can you say to him? You can't keep ignoring him forever now." Shen Mu replied.

"What will I say? That I went on a date with and ended up being married to another the same day." She questioned.

Their food arrived and Cheng Xiao decided to fill in her stomach first, the other things she was going to worry about them later.

"I would never have believed it that the CEO was in love with you all these years." Shen Mu said astonished.

"He refuses to get it annulled, and I don't know what to do." Cheng Xiao said cutting into her steak.

"Why do you want it annulled?" Shen Mu asked.

"Because it was a mistake in the first place." Cheng Xiao replied.

"Cheng Xiao, you mean to tell that all these years you never fell in love with him?" Shen Mu asked.

"He was my boss, and besides you know that he hated women that used to throw themselves at him. My mom just got cancer, and the fees was too much I didn't have time to think about anything else." She replied honestly.

"I don't want to be called a slut, sleeping my way to stay into the job. You know that we come from different backgrounds I don't want to be labeled as a woman who slept to climb the social status." Cheng Xiao added.

Xu Kai came from an aristocratic affluent family, while she came from a humbles family. They were not rich, but they were not poor either. 

"Cheng Xiao why don't you give him a chance?" Shen Mu asked even though she knew Cheng Xiao's worries.

"If he is not worried about your background, then why are you." Shen Mu asked her again.

"Shen Mu you know that it is more than that." She said and they ate in silence after wards.

"Let me pay!" Shen Mu said taking the bill.

"Consider this my apology." She added still feeling guilty.

"I still can't believe you did that." Cheng Xiao said indicating with the passcode.

"I said I was sorry, are you going to hang that on my neck now?" Shen Mu asked.

"I should!" Cheng Xiao replied joking.

"You married one of the most wanted men in the city." Shen Mu said.

"Am I supposed to feel like I won the lottery?" Cheng Xiao asked rolling her eyes.

"Technically you should." Shen Mu replied standing up.

"Right now, all I want to so is to focus on getting him a secretary so I can transfer to the design team." She said taking her bag.
