CHAPTER 63

The food and drinks soon arrived, and everyone was helping to themselves. Cheng Xiao and Shen Mu upon seeing the food, they dived into it not caring how they looked.

"Whoa!" Some of the colleagues exclaimed when they saw them.

"A drink for you." Cheng Xiao said pouring a drink into Shen Mu's glass and handed it to her.

"A drink for you too." Shen Mu said pouring a glass for Cheng Xiao as well and handed it to her. They clinked glasses and drank it in one go. 

In their own world they talked with no care in the world. Cheng Xiao's phone rang, she reached her bag, she opened her bag and took the phone out. The caller ID showed that it was her mother calling. 

"Look, your godmother is calling." Cheng Xiao said showing Shen Mu the phone. 

"Go!" Shen Mu spoke.

Cheng Xiao stood up from her seat and walked out of the room, she stood outside the door and answered the call.

"Mom!" She said when she picked it up.

"Cheng Xiao, what is this that I am hearing?" The mother asked when she heard Cheng Xiao's voice.

"Mom, what did you hear?" Cheng Xiao asked. 

"Did you and Ji Xiting broke up?" The mother asked. 

"His mother called complaining about how she was disappointed in you for what you did to her son." Her mother added. 

"Mom, it was bad on my behalf, but Ji Xiting and I can never be together." Cheng Xiao replied.

"Why is that?" Her mother asked.

"It's complicated, I'll explain to another day." She replied.

"But she was accusing you of being a gold digger, saying that you left her son to go and pursue a relationship with your boss. Didn't you say that you resigned, why are you back there?" Her mother asked.

"I did, but I was rehired with a designing position." Cheng Xiao responded. 

"The story with my boss is complicated I will explain it all to you another day. There is a dinner party to welcome all the new employees, so I have to go back inside." She spoke; she didn't want her mother to ask further questions. 

"Okay, you go ahead. Don't drink too much, I know how you are when you see alcohol." Her mother said with concern.

"MOM!" She said feeling embarrassed.

After hanging up the phone, she walked back into the room and sat beside Shen Mu. Xu Kia watched her walking back into the room and sat down without sparing him a glance.

"Is everything all right?" Shen Mu asked.

"Ji Xiting's mother went to complain to my mother." Cheng Xiao answered in low tone.

"You mean..." Shen Mu hinted with her eyebrow at Xu Kai.

"Yep!" Cheng Xiao spoke nodding. 

"He has landed me in a big mess." She said casting an eye at him. 

She filled her glass with the alcohol and gulped in down.

"Slow down!" Shen Mu said stopping her when she was about to gulp the second glass.
