A life of betrayal

In the kingdom of Solis, where magic surrounded almost every being, a place that was once peaceful and filled with amazements beyond one's imagination, was ravaged by war and beasts from other realms, creatures of darkness and some with light, some of which were once companions of humans and other beings, were rampaging across the lands.

A war that was started out of greed and the selfishness of people's desire to dominate that which they deemed fit and believed to be their right.

Among them was a young blind princess, Ophelia, who was known as the cursed child of the kingdom, due to her lack of magical prowess and limited contributions to her family and being the illegitimate child of the king, she was shunned aside by many.

Ophelia was beautiful, she had long and silky dark purple hair and her once lively eyes brimming with wonder, which were now blinded were piercing purple with silver linings within them.

She was mistreated most of her life and had little faith left in the life she lived as the illegitimate child of one of the most powerful royal families.

She prayed to the gods for a change of faith but was always met with more disappointment and hopelessness, to the point she wondered if there was a reason she was even born, little did she know her existence was one that was more than needed one that would change the very fabric of time.

Betrayed and taken as a scapegoat because of the wrongdoings of those who wanted power, those within her family and those closest to her.

Ophelia was killed during the war, one with the greatest power struggle, people had ever seen, a spear piercing through her and blood streamed down her body as she fell to the ground, gasping for breath.

'Why? What did I do so wrong to have to die like that? After being ridiculed, shunned aside, accused, used? Is this my fate? Am I truly a cursed child? Not meant to live? Is this the end for me?'

Those were the thoughts that filled her mind as she was taking her last breath, while someone, whose presence was very familiar to her, approached her body, looking down at her with disdain as she lay in a pool of blood.

"Despite being blind you were still a threat to the power I hold; you played your part well in helping me gain what I wanted, you have fulfilled your purpose but, unfortunately, your name will always remain stained, in order to keep mine clean, you had to die for me to rise without fail, you had to endure and suffer for my the needs of that which was important to us, my dear, rest well, Ophelia, maybe you would be luckier in another life, if you get one," The person said in a cold tone.

As they walked away, Ophelia began regaining her sight slightly, one which she thought she lost due to an accident that happened a few years ago, now realizing that it was all a part of a plan, one to keep her from rising, one to keep her tied down, like a little bird trapped in a cage.

As she lay there, covered in her own blood, with a blurred vision, looking at the person's retreating form as she reached out her hand and tears streamed down her cheeks, knowing she was a scapegoat in their plans.

She wanted to plead to live, for another chance but knew that with everything that happened, it wouldn't be a life worth living, but part of her still hoped for a chance of any kind, to be able to live happily, fulfill her dreams, ones which she only dared to dream of.

Ophelia remembered the way she was looked at, with scorn by some and disdain, making her feel insignificant, as though the very core of her existence was nothing more than a big mistake.

The girl managed to stand up, with a spear within her, as she walked forth, barely seeing properly, blood trickled down her long silk gown and after a few minutes, she collapsed onto the ground and soft grass.

As fights raged on in some areas within the kingdom, the power struggle increased, while she was taking her last few breaths, the air in which she was lying and bleeding, began giving off a cold air.

Underneath her body, a large dragon marking was embedded into the ground and as her blood streamed across the marking, the marking began glowing a soft yet cold and intimidating breeze surrounded her and the air was crackling with electricity as she looked around her, unable to move any further.

'Wh- What's going? What's happening here?' She wondered as she moved her head slightly to see since she couldn't move her body anymore, which had gone completely numb and she was on the verge of dying.

Ophelia looked around her, her eyes barely had any life as she heard a voice, calling out her name and she wondered who or what it was, since she didn't recognize the voice and the presence around her got stronger.

The atmosphere around her, was slightly chilly as her body grew cold and she felt a shiver up her spine as she managed to sit up, with the little strength she had left.

"Who... Who is there?" She asked as she began feeling as though she was sinking into the ground and a dark hole appeared under her, sucking her in.

She screamed as she was falling, plunging into a space dark, like an abyss and her vision began returning allowing her to see clearly, for the first time in years and her eyes widened in surprise as she wondered what was happening.

'I am seeing? How...' She wondered as she was surrounded by darkness, falling at an incredible speed, to where? She had no idea but one thing she did know and that was... Whatever was happening to her was not normal and dispite knowing she was dying she feared yet a little hope in her heart and for some unknown reason, the darkness around her didn't feel like a threat and it was almost comforting.
