Chen Guo rallied the group together.
Accompanying him this time were not only Zhou Tao and other trial challengers but also Zhao Jinrong and Geh Pao.
Chu Xiaohong had wanted to join, but Zhao Jinrong, concerned about her relatively weak strength and the potential for danger, had confined her.
In total, including Chen Guo, there were nine people—all top-notch fighters.
Chen Guo boasted a formidable combat strength of 1.5 million.
Zhao Jinrong had 180,000.
Geh Pao, 120,000.
And Zhou Tao, the quiet achiever, had unexpectedly reached 150,000.
Chen Guo's victories over numerous Beginner Villages had brought in a wealth of resources, giving Zhou Tao the first taste of the spoils.
Zhou Tao's impressive combat strength of 150,000 was a testament to his knack for aligning with the right ally.
Zhang Liting's squad, trailing with just over 10,000 combat strength, had enough firepower for their non-combat roles.
"Head to the Ruins of Immortals and wait for me there. Use the Flying Thunder God Art to open the Lunar Moon Formation," Chen Guo instructed. "The ruins are not far from here. Once I've opened the formation, you should be able to join me shortly."
"Got it, Boss Guangcheng. We'll leave it in your hands!" Zhou Tao responded.
With a nod, Chen Guo activated the Flying Thunder God Art and in an instant, he was at Solitary Falcon Ridge.
The ridge was overrun with werewolves, their ferocity amplified by the moonlight as they launched a frenzied assault on Chen Guo.
But to Chen Guo, they were inconsequential. His Myriad Swords Spell reduced all the werewolves to ashes.
Having cleared the werewolves, Chen Guo quickly located the cave Zhao Jinrong had mentioned.
It was a cave of austere simplicity, devoid of any adornment except for a central Yin Yang Roulette. The roulette featured a movable needle, with Yang on the left and Yin on the right. Currently, the needle pointed to Yin. All that was required was to turn the needle to Yin to proceed.
The ground was emblazoned with a vivid red array, drawn with a type of cinnabar that never faded. Chen Guo gazed at the intricate eight trigrams inscribed upon it, their meaning eluding him.
Stepping forward, Chen Guo adjusted the needle to the Yang position.
Boom!
A thunderous roar echoed as the rock at the cave's apex vanished, leaving behind a circular opening. This opening, akin to a well, channeled the pristine moonlight from above.
The moonlight beamed directly onto the Yin Yang Roulette, and the crimson array on the ground burst into a radiant red glow. The symbols of the eight trigrams—Qian, Kan, Kun, Dui, and others—began to emerge and spin continuously.
"This should do it. On to the next site, the Dao Comprehension Pavilion!" Chen Guo thought, and in an instant, he was there.
The Dao Comprehension Pavilion, as Zhao Jinrong had described, was the very site where Wei Hua, the revered founder of the Prime Clear Sect, had his enlightenment. A gazebo once stood here but had since collapsed, with the cave nestled beneath its ruins.
The pavilion lay desolate under the moon's clear light, devoid of any creatures—a convenience for Chen Guo.
Chen Guo had lost all interest in slaying the common, low-level monsters. Dispatching such creatures yielded only a plethora of odd trinkets, none of which contributed to his tally of slaughter points.
Among the spoils were a few treasures, yet most were worthless—like the witch's silk stockings and the human whip, which Chen Guo promptly discarded. These items were not only useless but also carried a sense of misfortune.
Without any tangible benefits, enthusiasm waned, and Chen Guo saw no point in engaging with these lesser beasts.
Having effortlessly entered the cave beneath the Dao Comprehension Pavilion, Chen Guo replicated his earlier actions and activated the array.
Next was the final destination—the Line Canyon.
True to its name, the Line Canyon was a narrow fissure within the gorge. Looking up from the bottom, the sky appeared as a mere sliver, hence the name.
No monsters resided here; the space was too cramped and hidden for their liking.
However, it was teeming with venomous insects and scorpions, which Chen Guo incinerated without a hint of compassion.
Before long, Chen Guo discovered a cave nestled within the crevices of the canyon. Upon entering, he followed his usual routine and activated the formation.
With all three formations now active, the Moonlight Formation should be open as well. The time had come to journey to the Immortal Ruins and Aerilon to retrieve the Gate of Myriad Realms.
...
Immortal Ruins.
Local legends spoke of a once-thriving cultivation sect in ancient times.
This sect mysteriously vanished, leaving behind nothing but ruins, which the locals referred to as the Immortal Ruins.
The most peculiar aspect of these ruins was the complete absence of vegetation. Not even the hardiest grass could take root on the forsaken structures. Furthermore, the ruins were perpetually enshrouded in mist. Despite becoming part of the Dusk Forest, the area retained its eerie atmosphere.
It was only after the valiant Lin Suzhen discovered and entered Aerilon that people realized the Immortal Ruins were connected to it.
As Zhou Tao and his companions reached the Immortal Ruins, the fog lifted to reveal a golden light piercing the sky, causing the earth to tremble. An ancient village materialized before their eyes.
The mountain village was quaint, composed entirely of thatched cottages. At its entrance stood a massive stone bearing three characters inscribed in oracle bone script: Aerilon.
Chen Guo also emerged, joining the group.
"It seems my timing is impeccable. You've just arrived at the Immortal Ruins, and I've already taken care of the Moonlight Array. Quite efficient, wouldn't you say?" Chen Guo remarked. "Now, let's all head to Aerilon together!"
Zhao Jinrong suggested, "I'm aware of a path that leads around to the back of the mountain. We should take that route to avoid alerting the fallen hero, Lin Suzhen."
"That's wise. To know your enemy and know yourself ensures victory without peril. We indeed should not act rashly but rather assess Lin Suzhen's capabilities first," Chen Guo concurred with Zhao Jinrong's plan.
Though Chen Guo could sometimes come across as overconfident, he was, at his core, exceedingly cautious. He believed in strategizing before acting, holding his enemies in strategic contempt while tactically avoiding any underestimation.
Following Zhao Jinrong's lead, Chen Guo took a narrow trail to the rear of the mountain village. From their elevated position, they had a commanding view of all that lay within Aerilon.
In Aerilon Village, the atmosphere wasn't filled with the enchanting aura one might expect. Instead, it was marked by a sense of antiquity and decay, a blend of desolation and a deep sense of history.
The village featured a dried-up ancient well, crumbling thatched cottages, and a chaotic array of household possessions scattered about—hardly the setting for an immortal's dwelling.
At the heart of the village stood a green circular gate, towering four to five meters high. Its center functioned like a display screen, cycling through scenes from various regions.
At times, it would show a barren desert, at others, lush green mountains and waters, sometimes a boundless ocean, and occasionally a vibrant urban landscape. Chen Guo understood that these images were glimpses into the different worlds within the Gate of Myriad Realms.
"The Gate of Myriad Realms, a first-tier divine artifact, carries a hint of malevolence. Beware of mental corruption!"
"The Gate of Myriad Realms: a portal connecting countless worlds, requires charging to function."
