Chapter Five: Meeting the Family

As their relationship blossomed, Julien decided it was time for Claire to meet his family. He invited her to a Sunday dinner at his parents' home, a charming townhouse in the elegant district of Le Marais. Claire was both excited and nervous, wanting to make a good impression.

On the day of the dinner, Julien picked Claire up from her apartment. "Don't worry," he said, sensing her anxiety. "They're going to love you."

Claire smiled, trying to calm her nerves. "I hope so."

When they arrived, Julien's parents, Alain and Isabelle, greeted them warmly. "Bienvenue, Claire," Alain said, kissing her on both cheeks. "We've heard so much about you."

"Thank you for having me," Claire replied, feeling more at ease.

The dinner was a lively affair, filled with laughter and delicious food. Julien's younger sister, Camille, joined them, adding to the convivial atmosphere. Claire was struck by how close-knit and welcoming Julien's family was.

As they enjoyed the meal, Alain asked Claire about her art. "Julien tells us you're a very talented painter," he said.

Claire blushed. "Thank you. I've been working on a series inspired by Paris. It's been a wonderful experience, living and creating in such a beautiful city."

Isabelle smiled. "We'd love to see your work sometime. Maybe you can exhibit it at one of the galleries Julien's company works with."

Claire was touched by their interest and support. "That would be amazing. Thank you."

After dinner, Julien and Claire took a walk in the garden, enjoying the cool evening air. "Your family is wonderful," Claire said. "I had a great time."

"I'm glad," Julien replied, taking her hand. "They liked you a lot. Especially Camille. She thinks you're amazing."

Claire laughed. "She's great. I can see why you're so close."

As they walked, Julien's expression grew serious. "There's something I need to tell you, Claire," he said, stopping to face her. "My ex-fiancée, Isabelle—she's been trying to get back in touch with me."

Claire felt a pang of insecurity. "Julien, if this is too much, too fast, I understand. We can take a step back."

Julien shook his head. "No, Claire. I'm telling you this because I want to be honest with you. Isabelle is part of my past. You're my present and my future. I don't want there to be any secrets between us."

Relief washed over Claire, and she squeezed his hand. "Thank you for being honest. I trust you, Julien."

Julien smiled, pulling her into a gentle embrace. "I love you, Claire."

Claire's heart soared. "I love you too, Julien."

As they stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, they felt a sense of certainty and hope. Despite the challenges they had faced and the ones that lay ahead, they knew they were stronger together.
