Chapter Fourteen: Saying Goodbye

The next few weeks were a blur of hospital visits, treatments, and moments of heartbreaking clarity. Claire and Julien spent every possible moment together, cherishing the time they had left. Their friends and family rallied around them, providing support and love.

One evening, as they lay in bed, Claire turned to Julien, her eyes filled with a mixture of sadness and acceptance. "Julien, I need to tell you something."

Julien looked at her, his heart aching. "What is it, Claire?"

"I want you to promise me that you'll go on living, that you'll find happiness again," she said, her voice trembling. "I don't want you to be alone."

Julien's tears flowed freely. "I don't want to think about a life without you, Claire."

"I know," Claire whispered, her own tears mingling with his. "But you have so much love to give. Promise me you'll find someone who makes you happy."

Julien nodded, his heart breaking. "I promise, Claire. But I'll never stop loving you."

In the days that followed, Claire's health rapidly declined. Julien stayed by her side, holding her hand, whispering words of love and comfort. As the end approached, Claire looked at Julien, her eyes filled with peace. "Thank you for loving me, Julien. You've made my life beautiful."

"I love you, Claire," Julien whispered, his voice choked with emotion. "Always."
