Chapter 20: Grassy Glide

"Grassy Glide, an attack that seems to glide across the ground, achieves unparalleled speed on grass or grassy terrain."

Summer read from the guide to Grass-type moves written by Ramos. After watching Marnie's opening ceremony, he brought Grookey to the Gracidea Flower Meadow.

The most important aspect of practicing Grassy Glide is the terrain, and now the Sunset Forest conveniently has a grassy field perfect for practice.

"Hmm, what's wrong, Petilil?"

Summer noticed something touching his pants leg and saw that it was the daring Petilil.

It ran back and forth on the clearing outside the Gracidea Flower Meadow, expressing its confusion.

"Don't worry, this phenomenon is normal in Sunset Forest."

Petilil tilted its head. Is it really normal? Waking up to find a new clearing nearby had made everyone uneasy.

"I'll make good use of the extra land. How about planting more Gracidea flowers?"

Summer's suggestion made Petilil spin in delight. It turned and dashed into the grass to share the good news with its friends.

Soon, a group of Petilil emerged, more numerous than before, with a few Budew mixed in.

"By the way, I have something nice for you all." Summer remembered the new thing he discover a while ago the Liechi Berry sapling.

He went to a suitable spot in the clearing and planted the Liechi Berry sapling, then extended his hand and said:

"Growth."

The sapling was enveloped in a faint green light and quickly grew, soon bearing lush green Liechi Berries.

The Grass-type Pokémon were astonished, with Petilil's leaf standing straight up and Cottonee floating into the air in surprise.

Why were they so shocked? Because of their typing. Grass-type Pokémon are most sensitive to plant growth and were naturally aware of how extraordinary Summer's ability was.

Their astonishment quickly turned to admiration, and in their eyes, Summer's figure became towering and grand.

"Grookey, come and try some."

Summer picked a Liechi Berry and handed it to Grookey. As a Grass-type Pokémon, it was sure to love it.

Grookey took the berry and eagerly began to eat, savoring the taste of grass. It showed a blissful expression, relishing the flavor of nature.

"It looks like you really enjoy it. Come on, everyone, have a taste."

Summer distributed the picked Liechi Berries among the Grass-type Pokémon. Given their small appetites, three Pokémon shared one berry, which was conveniently composed of three pods.

It was the first time they had tasted such delicious berries, and they all showed blissful expressions, their admiration for Summer reaching new heights.

"Almost forgot our main task." Summer picked up the book and continued reading about Grassy Glide.

"I discovered Grassy Glide by chance in the wild. I witnessed a Leafeon gliding swiftly across the grass, reaching a speed I thought impossible for Leafeon."

"So I used my charm to capture it, and I learned that this was a brand-new move."

Reading this, Summer was skeptical. He believed Grandpa Ramos must have subdued the Leafeon by force.

"I named it Grassy Glide because it allows swift movement on grass. Through experiments, I found it equally effective on Grassy Terrain, even faster."

"The principle of this move is to manipulate ground plants, using their support to accelerate and attack the opponent quickly."

"In summary, the key is affinity with plants, turning the grass into your glide path."

"Note: First, Grassy Terrain is faster because the grass is a life energy body, making it easier to control. Second, it can be used without grass or Grassy Terrain, but loses its original speed, becoming a basic Grass-type attack."

Summer showed an understanding expression after reading. Grandpa Ramos had an in-depth understanding of moves. Given his era, he was truly a pioneer in Pokémon battles.

"Grookey, let's train the new move."

"Groo~" Grookey jumped off Summer's shoulder, looking excited. It enjoyed growing stronger with Summer.

At this moment, the Grass-type Pokémon, led by Petilil, gathered around. They were also interested in the move Summer mentioned.

"You all want to learn a new move?" Summer asked.

Everyone nodded. If Summer was teaching a move, it must be powerful.

Summer looked at this group of special attack-oriented Pokémon and wondered if they could all learn Grassy Glide.

[Yes.]

Hearing the straightforward answer, Summer suppressed his surprise and responded:

"Got it. Listen carefully to my explanation."

Dozens of eyes were fixed on Summer. He casually picked up a branch and started drawing on the ground.

"Grassy Glide is the move I'm going to teach you. You need to turn the grass into a speed booster."

"Imagine countless blades of grass pushing you forward, enhancing your speed on the ground. This tests your ability to control plants."

"Let's start with something simple. Grookey, use Grassy Terrain."

Following Summer's command, Grookey gathered a green energy ball in its hand, and soon, the surroundings were lush with grass.

"Try it out, Grookey."

Since Grookey had created the Grassy Terrain itself, it had a natural control over it. Recalling Summer's drawings and explanations, Grookey began to glide on the ground, with grass converging under its feet.

A grassy path appeared as it glided, and Grookey turned into a green flash, heading towards a tree. Upon contact, Grookey was astonished by the speed it had just experienced.

[Grookey learned the move Grassy Glide (unskilled).]

Though the ranger assistant noted it as an unskilled Grassy Glide, Summer was still impressed by Grookey's talent.

"Grookey, well done, you succeeded on the first try." Summer praised, "But you need more practice. Next, try using Grassy Glide on a normal grass field."

"Groo~" Grookey happily went to the grass field to continue training.

"Did everyone see the move Grookey used? It's very fast, isn't it? Try to mimic it, the key is making the grass work for you."

"Petili~"

The bold Petilil stepped forward, mimicking Grookey's glide. It started fast but slowed halfway, with the grassy path disappearing.

Petilil looked disappointed, and Summer bent down to pat its round head, comforting it:

"Being able to do it halfway is already impressive. Keep trying, and you'll master it."

"Petili!" Petilil tried again, increasing its distance by a third.

"See, you're making progress."

Petilil's efforts encouraged the other Pokémon, who all took turns attempting to glide on the ground, creating a lively scene.

Watching these diligent Pokémon, Summer imagined a humorous scenario.

A peaceful afternoon, a Pokémon hunter tries to capture the Petilil. Suddenly, they glide across the grass at lightning speed, attacking. That would be quite a sight.
