The banshee-like screech of my alarm jolted me awake, making me wonder if I'd accidentally enrolled in "Torturing Sleepy Students 101" instead of a supernatural high school.
I groaned, burying my face in my pillow and contemplating the merits of skipping my first day entirely.
"Rise and shine, roomie!" Nyx's cheerful voice cut through my cocoon of misery. "You don't want to be late for our first day of magical mayhem, do you?"
I reluctantly peeked out from under my covers, only to be assaulted by the sight of Nyx in her school uniform.
Somehow, she'd managed to make even the dowdiest outfit look like something out of a teen boy's wet dream.
The skirt was hiked up so high it was practically a belt, and her shirt was unbuttoned, dangerously low. I felt a twinge of envy mixed with annoyance.
"How are you so perky?" I grumbled, fumbling for my own uniform. "It's barely dawn. Shouldn't you be hibernating in a coffin or something?"
