There was I, standing with an almost glazed expression. Too stunned to even form any words after this stranger said those words. How can he so easily ask to marry me, no lest in front of my ex-fiancé and in our garden where our engagement party's supposed to had happened. I narrowed my eyes.
More than that... my child... How can he know about my child? no one knew about this child but me, no one is supposed to know of this but me! Had my OB snitched on me? but that's impossible, why would she? she isn't even aware who I am.
Then how?...
"What do you mean Mr. Abramo?" Jelena demanded; her gaze pointed towards her husband and then to the said man with a questioning look.
Instead of answering his wife's question, Leandro gazed at the Abramo and nodded, then turned to his daughter who stood, perplexed and silently absorbing everything that's happening. In her mind, a plan was forming. Maybe this was better? she could kill two birds with one stone if she goes along with this man. Jade had though that it will be easy to hide the fact that this child she's bearing was not with Zion. Instead, was with this with man, the second one was that she could easily escape Zion and Jane with it.
The problem was that; who really was this guy, and would he allow to be used like this? But then again, he wouldn't do this if he hadn't already considered that part. Of all this the most important question stands, what's the catch? What is he after in doing this? That, Jade didn't know nor had the answer to.
And just like on autopilot, Jade's mouth moved absentmindedly.
"Why would you even want to marry me?"
After those words left Jades mouth, everybody in the backyard looked at her, further making the already tense atmosphere even worse. everyone one went quiet. Abramo, meanwhile gave her a slight confused yet understanding look.
"Actually, why would You want to marry My fiancé." Zion suddenly spoke which earned him sharp gazes. Jade chuckled darkly, then:
"I'm sorry, what..." Jade's brows creased. "Your fiancé? Bastard, are you hearing yourself right now?" Jade interrupted; her gaze sharply pointed towards Zion. With a disgusted look on her face, she lifted her chin and sneered towards him and Jane.
"As far as I've known, you've been cheating behind my back with my own sister! Now it really makes me regret not giving you a chance on enrolling those "How to Read a Room courses!" Jade chuckled darkly. However, Zion seemed to not care at all as he didn't even blink, purposely ignoring her.
Wow, how did she even fell for this guy? Jade shook her head. She was at a loss for words, was this the same guy she been blindly in love with for years? This, all of this is just so damned ridiculous! Running her hand through her hair, Jade glanced towards Abramo who was silently watching all of this with clenched hands. He had been itching to hit someone since earlier but no, he won't stoop that low, not yet at least.
"You know what you were right." Jade started, her face red in anger and embarrassment, her eyes puffy from crying but it was devoid of any emotions.
Abramo lingered for a moment, his eye moved from Jade's sister and ex-fiancé before turning towards her.
"What do you mean?" he asked calmly.
"That I should've left him long ago."
The corner of Abramo's lips curled. The cold yet charismatic man's demeanor shifting. All while the rest of her family stared at them in confusion, the two seemed to be lost in their own world of understanding. their eyes briefly meeting but it was as is thousands of unsaid things were said.
"Can I interpret that as a yes then?" Abramo patiently waited for Jade to answer, he was well aware that this would be too overwhelming for her. Jade's words and actions, as well as her sudden change in behavior towards him says it all.
"Hold a minute! What the hell is exactly going on?" Jane, who had been quiet all this time chided. her expression, sharp and unyielding.
"What child? And marriage? what is all this about dad, why're you so okay with this?" Jane added.
Liandro only gave her daughter a short side glance, in his heart, a lot of pain, disbelief and disappointment and other more emotions are mixed. Shaking his head, Liandro turned to her and spoke.
"Aren't you being too shameless child? You're supposed to be begging for your sister's forgiveness, to be ashamed of what you've done?" Liandro's unrelenting gaze towards Jane made the girl shiver and lower her head.
"Yet you're here, questioning my decisions, me and your mother are ashamed to have raised such a failure and ungrateful child." The domineering man continued.
There was yet another thick stretch of silence when the old man's words were let out, it was a stark contra of what kind of treatment he used to give towards his youngest daughter.
The said girl, only now realizing the whole gravity of a situation she's in and had made, lowered her head in sheer embarrassment. Sure, she now has the man she wanted but what now, she completely fucked up. But what difference will it do if she broods about it?
Jane had already fallen head over heels for Zion the moment her older sister, Jade, introduced him to the family. He had treated her so well unlike other boys her age, he was sweet and kind like no one else. She did try to hide it, for a very long time, Jade did. But when she discovered that he had something for her as well Jade just can't help being selfish.
They had hidden it so well that if Zion hadn't made a mistake of leaving his phone, Jade surely wouldn't have found out. For years, they had contently remained in the shadows, but when Jade found about the ring and had completely misunderstand that it was supposed to be for Jane, stead of her, something inside her suddenly snapped.
Jane, determined to not let the one she loves, be married to her sister, purposefully allowed herself to get pregnant of her older sister's fiancé's child. With all that already said, Liandro only heaved a deep sigh then turned towards his wife whose face was both of unease and sober, her eyes darting from her youngest daughter to her husband.
There was a silent nod before he gently took her arm and gave it a soft tug, Jelena was well aware of what her husband wanted to convey, she wanted to as so many questions, but she was well aware when a when to not ask. Not because she was scared of Liandro, no, Jelena was just not that type of person who'd push it, she could read a room.
Nodding, Jelena made her way towards her husband's side, Jessica in tow.
Jade gave her parents a quick glance, assessing the looks on their faces before she diverted it back towards Abramo. Abramo... She doesn't even know an inch about this man, only for a fact that he must've had a high standing for him not to get the usual approach others experience when they blatantly disrespect the man, no less get involved in Liandro's family matters especially of this degree.
To whom this man was, Jade doesn't even care right now, that was a problem for the future. What she knows right now is that she's willing to trust and cooperate with him and what come next after is to be delt with tomorrows her.
She gave him her hand.
"Yes, I'll marry you.''
