Lord Sherbourne was silent for a moment, and Gwendolyn could feel the tension building. When he finally spoke, his voice was low and gruff, but not unkind.
"I suppose the morning is fair," he said. "And how are you?"
"Oh, I'm doing well," Gwendolyn answered, a bit surprised that he would even ask. "Thank you for your concern, my lord."
"Is that so? I'm glad to hear it."
He sounded sincere, and Gwendolyn felt herself relax a little. Maybe he wasn't going to ignore her after all.
The lord shifted in his seat, clearing his throat before speaking again. "Last night was a bit... unexpected," he said. "I hope that you can forgive me for my actions."
Gwendolyn glanced at him and saw a look of genuine concern on his face. She was touched by his apology and couldn't help but smile.
"Of course, my lord," she said. "I appreciate your apology."
