Amira awoke the next day to the sensation of being cradled, and as she lifted her head, she realized she was in Zyran's arms, with him soundly asleep beside her.
She let out a sigh and allowed her head to rest back against his chest, her thoughts inevitably drifting back to the events of the celebration. The clash of swords and the sight of blood had brought back haunting memories from her past, plaguing her mind once more.
Her fingers tightened on his shirt as she took in a sharp intake of breath, feeling a sudden pat on her head and hearing a calming voice that whispered to her.
"No one is going to hurt you," Zyran whispered his words a comforting balm to her heart. Amira raised her head to meet his eyes.
"I'm sorry for waking you," she said softly.
He simply smiled and leaned in to place a gentle kiss on her forehead.
"You didn't," he assured her.
As he brushed her hair away from her face, his eyes lingered on her, full of tenderness and concern.
"Did I sleep for long?" she asked, noticing the sun reaching its zenith. It seemed like mid-afternoon.
"You missed today's camp. What if His Majesty becomes upset..." Amira started but Zyran interrupted her.
"He can be as upset as he wants. I'm just looking after my unwell wife," he said, tenderly kissing her nose.
Amira couldn't help but smile.
"I heard someone mention that you were heading east, as the border has been breached," she said, as Zyran gently played with her hair while listening to her words.
"Are you planning to head to the eastern region?" she inquired with a concerned look.
"Our troops stationed in the east have been overrun. It's just a matter of time before they reach our supply base; we must act swiftly to prevent further casualties," Zyran responded, his expression shifting to one of seriousness.
Amira's mood dropped.
"Don't worry I won't be gone for long" he reassured her and she nodded.
"I was wondering if you'd be interested in taking a stroll later," she asked, her voice softening as she tried to lighten the heavy mood.
"The physician said you needed to rest; you can't be going around stressing your body out," Zyran told her, being the overprotective husband he was.
"I need fresh air Zyran, I can't stay baked in the room all day" she pouted.
"Can we visit town for a few days? It would be like our own little world, living casually like a commoner," Amira said with a glint in her eyes.
Zyran tapped her nose with his index finger and smiled.
The evening arrived, and Amira was helped down the carriage by Zyran. She was dressed in a simple but elegant outfit.
Amira had a veil covering her face, and her shiny red dress split at the back as she walked.
"Zyran" Amira turned to him after seeing several men and women walk into the town Entertainment inn.
Zyran was dressed like a male servant, with a cap on his head, and dressed roughly beneath her false status.
"Don't be scared. I am here to protect you. All I need you to do is keep their attention on you and catch the sight of the blacksmith," Zyran told her.
"What if we are caught?" She asked.
"Caught?? Who am I?" Zyran asked.
"Zyran?!" She said.
"Silly, you are General Zyran, who leads our army to war; I am here to investigate on behalf of the investigating bureau," he told her.
"Why do I feel like you are making light of the situation" she said.
"I just want you to have fun. After all, just leave the dirty work to me, princess," he said, placing a kiss on her head.
His eyes drift off behind her, where Ali and Aaron stand in a corner, making sure the princess will be okay inside.
Amira stepped away from him and made her way into the inn.
Upon entering the bar, all eyes were drawn to her, the mysterious lady who confidently took a seat and effortlessly commanded attention.
The barman eagerly attended to her as she subtly tilted her head, exuding an air of allure and intrigue. Her every movement seemed calculated to captivate, and she exchanged a meaningful glance with a smiling gentleman across the room.
Aaron and Ali had taken their position in the inn.
"Hello beautiful lady, are you here alone?" A man strolled over as he took his seat beside Amira
"Alone? aren't we both here to have a pleasant night?" she said, raising her glass to him.
The man let out a laugh clicking his glass with Amira.
"I hast been a long time since I encounter such beautiful woman, tell m,e beautiful lady, which household are you from?" He asked.
"Amira, acting like she didn't hear, raised a brow that smoothened out as she took a sip of her dring raising her veil a little.
"Being all mysterious, ain't you? How about you take off your veil and let me see your pretty face, hmm?" Amira glared at him.
"Don't..." She tried moving away from the intrusive man only for him to advance.
Aaron and Ali were already quick on their feet to help out but stopped midway as someone else
