A Summon at Dawn

Stepping inside the building, Luke was met with the quiet stillness of the early morning. The stone corridors were dimly lit, with only the faintest glow of the rising sun seeping in through the narrow windows. The air carried a lingering coolness from the night before, making the walk to Commander Valerie's room feel strangely calm.

Unlike the first time, there was no need for an escort. Larissa wasn't leading him, and no wary glances were thrown his way. He had walked this path before. He knew exactly where to go.

As he reached the door, he lifted his hand and knocked.

A brief silence followed before Commander Valerie's voice carried through the heavy wood.

"Enter."

Pushing the door open, Luke stepped inside—and immediately, his eyes narrowed in slight surprise.
