Chapter 9 - "It's Finn"

"Finn is in the next room, Nathan. He is with your dad." Olly was quiet but I did not care. I called her in to have a good time and that was exactly what I wanted.

All that had been going on with the mystery girl made me feel as though I had lost the touch of firmness I had. I needed and wanted to feel like a man again and Olly knew just how to do that.

"So?" I asked her firmly. "He can't walk in here. The door is locked and if he tries knocking, we would remain quiet and act like no one is in here until he walks away, it's that simple."

She did not look convinced but I did not care. "He's your soon to be Beta, he has the right to come in here as he wishes especially if it is something important, you know this."

I hissed, not sure of what she wanted me to say or how to help her with whatever she was feeling.

"Are you sure the door is locked?" She asked again when she noticed I was not having any of the unnecessary questions.

I hated being questioned again and again. "Don't try to get me mad, you know I am not a fan of how you're acting right now. Can we just get to why we are here and forget anything else? We both know that is all we do here so why go on and off about it?

There was a loud silence in the room and I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it. Olly was not the kind to put off easily so it made sense that she would yap on about things. It was quite satisfying to tell her to shut her mouth and allow me to hear myself think.

I made no move to touch her and she knew I was already turned off. It would take a lot for her to do to bring me back into the mood she had originally ruined.

"How about the thing with your dad?" Olly and I talked a lot on another note. She always had a lot of questions to ask and it was easy with her to just break things down and listen to her perspective on things. She had advised me on many things before and while it seemed she did not know what she was saying sometimes, she still managed to make sense sometimes.

"What thing?" I asked her. I knew we had talked about many things but there was nothing recent that I discussed with her. Bringing up my dad meant something, either something we said or something we heard.

Olly looked at me confused, I stared back at her with the same expression.

"I heard about the last time you both talked physically, the mate thing." Everyone in this pack talked and it annoyed me to my bones. I wondered how what my father and I said in the confines of the conference room when no one was there got out and especially to Olly who did not even live close.

"I don't want to talk about it. Since you already heard about it, it means those who brought the discussion to you must have told you all they heard, why asking me again?"

"I am sorry. I just want to know about it, that's all."

"Please, Olly. I did not have a good day in school and frankly, this is not why I wanted you here but even for that, I am not in the mood. I think it's best you leave."

"No, Nathan. I am sorry. I didn't mean it like that, I promise."

"Just shut it, Olly. You talk too much. Shut up about all these and let's get down to business, the main reason we are always here."

She smiled at me and I smiled back.

As soon as my hands climbed under her shirt and I felt the warmth of her back against my palm, I relaxed but it was only short-lived. The door to my father's room closed gently and I could tell who had just left the room between my father and Finn since they were both in. I knew whatever they talked about it could be not beyond me and the issue of finding my mate but I knew I was never going to ask Finn about it.

I was tired of the subject of discussion and I wished everyone was going to be quiet about it even if it was only for once so I could breathe.

Like I would have guessed, the knock on my door made me freeze and only made Olly anxious, her heart suddenly beating loud enough outside her chest.

"It's Finn, I'm sure." She whispered so he would not hear her from the other side.

"I know. Be quiet, we just have to pretend like we are not here. The door is locked so he can't come in anyway."

The anxiety she felt had not reduced but there was no way I could help her, I was not feeling good enough about Finn being outside my room, hoping to enter as well.

"Nathan? Are you in? Open up, please. It's quite important."

I stayed still like any movement will take life out of me.

He tried to open the door when he heard no reply but seeing as it would not open, he left. I turned to Olly and without saying words, she knew what was next to do.

She was already standing by the door in a matter of minutes, her clothes on her body but her heart still on her palms and her eyes on the brink of tears.

"He's gone, don't worry. I'll see you later. Do not come unless I reach out to you." I took a peek outside the door to be sure Finn was gone. I motioned to Olly to move out and to do so quietly.

I waved to her but just before I closed the door, I noticed a figure standing in the darkness, just close to my father's door, staring intensely at me and at Olly. I tried to figure out who it was but seeing as it was dark, I assumed it to be one of my father's guards specially assigned to him tonight like they did on some nights to watch him depending on how he was feeling that night.

I closed the door and turned the keys after, feeling safe again but not so sure about how good of a friend I was after an episode that could have almost blown in my face.
