Chapter 17 - Screams

NATHAN

I was shocked to be standing right outside my pack hospital. When I left school following Jasmine, I was hoping I was going to run to where she was living and then go in with her while doing everything I could to be friends with her.

I rubbed my face again and hoped it was going to be a dream or a figment of my own imagination but standing outside that place, I knew it was not my own imagination. It was the pack hospital I knew very much about and it made me feel stupid.

If Jasmine had been in this pack all the while, it was right for her to say I could have found out things about her when I got her gifts. My heart skipped beats and I wondered if my pack and my father were responsible for her being so weak and dirty whenever she got to school in the morning.

My heart broke and I could feel myself almost in tears but I composed myself. There were people outside and seeing me cry would spark unnecessary rumors in the mind of many and I was not cut out for that. My father would also have something else to add to the list of why I was not a good enough son for him and I just could not risk it.

Still, I stood watching the hospital knowing that the girl was going to come out sooner or later. Again, my mind thought about her only coming there to get treated.

"Maybe her pack is not developed yet with treatment of werewolves and she came here to get treated." I tried my best to convince myself but even I knew that I did not make any form of sense to myself and I needed to as there were a lot of things to figure out in so little time.

I wondered if Finn knew she was a pack member and if he did, why he had not brought it up with me but I remembered our relationship was spiraling and not in the good way which made me wonder how and why we got to that point in the first place.

"Aaaaaaah!" I knew that voice anywhere I heard it. Jasmine was in trouble in the pack hospital and that did not sound like the voice of someone who came there to be treated for wounds.

As a werewolf, her pain tolerance level was supposed to high and her shout should not be that loud if she was getting treated. I ignored it, it was probably my mind playing tricks on me but I remained on the spot. If I heard her scream again, I was going to go into the room and stop any form of operation or treatment they were doing that made her scream that loud.

I moved closer to the hospital so I would not miss any sound she made. Whatever it was, I hoped it was not what I thought of. I hoped it was not an intentional infliction of pain on her and that it was something that was explainable else they would all have a lot of things to say, especially to my father.

"Aaaaah." The particular noise was louder than the first one and it made me all the more scared.

The closer I got to the room, the louder I heard her tears. It sounded like she had been crying non-stop as her voice was now hoarse and it sounded like it was reducing with time, a sign that she was losing her strength because she had been crying for a long time.

"Open this door!" The handle was not budging because it was locked from inside but I could not let that stop me. "Open this door now!"

The more I pushed it, the harder it became for me to continue as my heart began to lose its will from hearing her cry. I knew I needed no confirmation to be sure that she was my mate. It was very obvious from how much I cared about her and even up to this minute. The only thing that confused me about it all was that Adam was not saying anything and I desperately wanted him to. I needed him to confirm it because as it seemed, I was only falling in love with the girl as the days went on and I needed to be sure of what I was feeling.

"Open this door!" I was not sure where the strength came from but wherever it was, I knew it was just what I needed.

If no one was going to open the door, I would have to use force on it and goodness help them, the door opened, they would all be on the ground if the cause of the noise Jasmine was making was because they were inflicting pain on her.

"Go away, whoever you are. Whatever is going on here is not your business." Someone responded from inside.

I recognised the voice as that of Dr. Brown. He was the Head of the pack doctor and the one who directed the hospital affairs. Yet, it did not cause me to stop. He answered to my father which meant he answered to me since I was going to be the next Alpha and the process had started with the only thing left being the Luna whom may as well be the one they were injuring inside the room.

"Open this door right away." I said again, anger already taking the better control of me.

"I said go away this minute else you would answer to the Alpha himself."

"Except I am not going to have to. This is Nathan, the one and only son of Alpha Sullivan so I suggest you open this door this minute before things go beyond your control and I mean it."

Quickly, I heard ruffling in the background before the door finally opened.

Before I could take a good look at what was going on, Jasmine's limp body collapsed into my hands and my heart broke deeply.

Blood covered her and tears covered her naked body. I took my cardigan and wrapped her quickly. She looked small in it, too small. Everything made sense now.
