Chapter Twenty-Six: He's hot.
There weren't enough hours in the day. Zenith realized this when he saw it remained only twenty minutes for his last class for the day to end.
His last class had been a theory class and he had to explain elemental magic, something he learnt by himself with practical, but the students had a hard time assimilating it. Theory classes were the worst.
He didn't also have the time to share the reanimation with the students. He accepted it and closed the book. "Come early for class tomorrow." He told them, he could see their eyes shifting towards the white ball of energy sometimes which meant they could see it.
"I reanimated a battle scene for you students to experience." It cringed him calling that a battle but it'd probably be for them.
He had used aura to point out the attacks that were invisible for their sakes, and made the environment more eerie, all for effects. They'd surely pick a thing or two from it.
Alexandria nodded quickly, already planning how early he'd sleep to wake up early the next day. The students became renewed by the anticipation.
Zenith left the remaining minutes to them and sluggishly walked out of the class, heading straight for the panda bread store.
Layla covered her mouth as she yawned and stretched her back backwards. She nearly fell and Nephis held her in place, she plopped back to her seat. "I'm so tired, I didn't get to do anything today."
Nero raised a brow. Should she be tired when she did nothing? But he swallowed down his question and packed his books.
He still needed to finish his registration and be a full student, so he headed for the principal's office.
"Like always, is it not, Layla?" Nephis' hung her back behind her. "Our classes were always theory."
Layla knew that, but today that the class hadn't been entirely theory, she still couldn't do anything and it hurt. She pulled her bag from the desk and grabbed her apartment key under it.
Looking under her table and seeing nothing, she sighed and headed for the door. Lilian bumped into her to escape through the door and meet up with the backbenchers.
Layla tiredly bounced to the wall on being pushed, and stayed there with a defeated expression.
Nephis frowned. "Because you did nothing today so you'd let yourself be treated like trash? Lilian!! Come back here and apologize!"
Layla detached from the wall quickly, and held Nephis's balled fists "Calm down, Nephis. Lilian is just being herself…"
She trailed off when she noticed Aleksandra strolling towards Alexandria and whispering in his ears. She tapped Nephis but quietly. "Look at those two…"
Nephis turned and a scowl came to her face. "Are they married… I mean, dating yet?" she narrowed her eyes and noticed Alexandria roll his eyes. She faced Layla who faced her too. "It's not mutual?"
Layla shook her head. "Poor Aleksandra, got rejected by our hot teacher and our 'most amazing student' in a day. She shouldn't have tried both of them in the same day though."
Nephis stared at her friend questioningly, wondering why she so naturally called the teacher 'hot'. Was he?
The type of men Nephis would call 'hot' are those that had a fiery powerful personality that lit up a room and commanded the loyalty and admiration of everyone.
"That teacher isn't all that." She said dismissively and went towards the exit. "Aleksandra is just being a dolphin, nothing else."
Layla tried to remember what 'being a dolphin' meant in Guanda since Nephis probably meant it as an idiom.
She remembered that in Guandan culture, they believed dolphins aren't really nice to humans and only acted nice to be praised, given snacks, and loved. It's like being an attention seeker.
"That's not very nice." Layla followed Nephis. "She might really like the teacher, and Alexandria. I mean, they're good-looking and have impressive abilities."
Nephis's felt her stomach grumbling and only fish stayed on her mind, she turned towards the school's stalls and caught the scent of fish stew. While Layla kept on babbling, she pulled her towards the stall in a hurry.
Meanwhile at the class, Aleksandra finished telling Alexandria her grand plan that could help him become the young Mage's apprentice as he wanted. In exchange, he had to help her get close to the Mage.
"You're flattering him." Alez said behind her, while packing his books into his bag. Aleksandra turned to him and wondered how he heard her.
"It's been four years since the news of Sir Zenith picking a apprentice went on air and till now, they hadn't even been a competition organized for it, do you really think he has a chance?" Alez asked.
Alexandria frowned at him, before throwing his bag behind him. "Well, Sandra, you heard him. Chances of getting what we want is low. Let's go, Alez." He grabbed him by his arm and pulled him out of the classroom.
Aleksandra exhaled loudly and returned to her seat, the class was empty apart from Kawaya who's asleep in his desk. She pounded his back and he sprang up, then she walked out of the class.
The signs of the festival had become pronounced from that morning to when they were walking back home.
Alexandria walked faster while following the crawling caterpillar-shaped lights moving around the electric wires. Alez shook his head at his childish antics.
They kept walking till they reached a lonely site, there was a foul air around the area but everything seemed to be normal.
Alexandria instinctively stopped in front of a barrier he sensed, he reached out to touch it.
"Wait!" Alez dragged him back, just in time for a sword to slash him. The sword landed on the ground heavily, making a crack on the earth. It was a heavy metallic weapon with a red coated handle that exuded a dark aura.
The boys' eyes widened at the damage a small swing did. They looked ahead but there was nothing in front of them, it had to be from the barrier.
Alez breathing quickened but he calculated quickly. "L-Let's turn back, Alexandria… its probably a Dark Mage trapped in there or something…let's…"
He looked at his friend's and saw the determination flashing in his eyes. Fear clouded his eyes and he became agitated. Did Alexandria want to try fighting something like that! "No, no… don't have any ideas."
Alexandria left the ground, with clenched fists. One, whoever-it-was tried to kill him for no reason, he, the son of the Feloncia Household couldn't let it go.
"And two," he sighed, "I'd be proving to you that I have what it takes to be Sir Zenith's apprentice."
Alez's face drained of color and he regretted speaking of it. "Wait…" he tried to hold him back but sparks flew out of Alexandria's body. "Oh, yes. We're dead."
