His eyes straight away took in the scene, and his expression darkened. "What's happening right here?"

Anna glared at Nathan. "Perfect timing, Nathan. Come to and see your precious Jacqueline confront the wicked witch?"

Nathan stepped forward, his voice low and organized. "That's enough, Anna. Jacqueline came right here to try to understand, to increase an olive branch. And you pay her off with greater bitterness and hate."

Anna's eyes were packed with tears of frustration. "I'm not the villain here, Nathan. I was just trying to protect the things I have."

Nathan shook his head. "Your actions have outcomes, Anna. You betrayed the pack, and you have to stay with that. Jacqueline has proven more grace and endurance than you deserve."

Jacqueline touched Nathan's arm lightly. "It's okay Nathan. I just wanted to see if there was any way to reach her."
