Chapter 96 - Revenge & Fatherhood II

"Tony, stop! You can't go there alone."

"Cut it, Cap. I've made up my mind, and I'm doing this—no discussion. As the President, I am ordering you to stand down." Tony's voice crackled through the comms as he continued to jet off across the Atlantic ocean, behind him an army of Iron Guardians of varying sizes followed, numbering a hundred.

"But–"

"I can't hear you." Tony ended the final call and picked up the speed. After speaking with Natasha and then Darcy about his 3-day vacation, he went completely offline, entering stealth mode of his suit.

His destination, Eastern Europe.

His enemy, Hydra.

He already had a few Hydra secret bases marked on the map, and he hoped to find more along the way by infiltrating the Hydra network. This time he had no desire to go slow, and total destruction was the only goal he had.

Soon, his army of Iron Guardians reached Germany. It was a small but still a significant Hydra base. Instead of bombarding it from the sky, Tony landed down in Stealth Mode and infiltrated the base using the other stealth-focused Iron Guardians.

With his bleeding-edge tech, he scanned the entire base from the top to its deepest floor. He knew how many humans and animals were inside. Once he infiltrated the network, Jarvis even revealed if there were any hostages held there.

Once he was done preparing, he planted explosives in strategic locations before saving the civilian hostages. After that, he flew back into the sky, and with a single command, the entire Hydra base crumpled into itself, turning into a hellish rubble of fire and dead bodies. A quick notification was sent to SHIELD, NATO, and the President's office back home as soon as he left for his second target.

France, UK, Mediterranean, Egypt, India, Brazil, China, Japan—Tony moved without any regard wherever he found Hydra's headquarters. His flight path was random because he grabbed intel about the next base from the one he'd destroy.

However, outside the EU, he had to be careful, especially in China. But he still completed his goal and destroyed the Hydra facility. Slowly, the red dots on the map started to vanish. His speed was unmatched by the Iron Guardians.

"Alright, next stop, Sokovia." Tony flew above the massive Hydra base in the middle of the mountains. As per the documents from other Hydra bases, this was a research facility.

"Sir, an energy shield of a similar pattern as the Tesseract is surrounding the facility," Jarvis notified.

Tony hummed and quickly accessed the SHIELD files. He looked around for the items gathered from the New York invasion and quickly found the missing item. It was Loki's scepter that he used to control minds.

"Shield and Hydra were the same at that point, I guess." Tony sighed and planned an attack. "Check if I can use the Arc Reactor to take down that energy field. I did make the new one from the Tesseract, after all."

"Affirmative, Sir. You can cross the shield."

Tony took a deep breath and looked behind. More than fifty Iron Guardians were still left, although somewhat bruised. Heck, his own nano-tech armor was on the verge of its tolerance. He had truly abused his tech to the peak. A new upgrade was in order, he reckoned.

"Let's go all out, Jarvis. Go in guns blazing." Tony flew forward and crossed the Energy Shield. Behind him, the Iron Guardians did the same.

Woosh!

Instantly, the base's air defense responded with missiles.

"Toys," Tony muttered and dealt with them with ease, continuing to make his way towards the entrance of the base. At the same time, Jarvis scanned the entire facility.

"Just over a thousand men, Sir. Additionally, they have a Chitauri Leviathan stored underground, along with the source of the high energy."

"A research facility indeed," Tony muttered and let the Iron Guardians go in first to take down the defenses and armed men. "Any hostages?"

"None, Sir. However, there are two figures in the lower levels near the leviathan and energy center. Both emit peculiar energy signatures, akin to an energy shield. One is a female, while the male is… moving at Mach 10 speed."

Mutants? Experimentation? Tony wondered silently and continued to make his way deeper into the facility. Since he already had the layout, he headed to what looked like the control room.

"Yeah, this could get messy. Keep a couple of Iron Guardians close by, just in case. And for the love of everything, activate the mind protection protocols. I don't want another Jean incident."

Slightly more careful, Tony entered the control center and quickly copied all the files. At the same time, he took over the security cameras to find the boss of the base.

"Let's make our way down."

He blasted through armed men, some in the clothes of soldiers and others in lab coats. Tony showed no hesitation in acting like a soldier. Hydra, true to its name, multiplied too quickly if not thoroughly wiped out.

"Sir, the two figures are moving."

Tony remained vigilant and kept going downstairs, eventually arriving in a massive, underground research area. An entire Leviathan was hanging in the air there, slowly getting dismantled. There were also Chitauri weapons sprinkled around, and a few ripoffs of his Iron Man suit.

Who else has access to Chitauri bodies? He wondered.

"Sir, they are right behind you." Jarvis notified him inside his helmet.

Tony still didn't react and continued to walk towards Loki's scepter standing erect in some sort of a machine.

"Sir, the woman is extremely close to you."

Ugh… I feel dizzy all of a sudden.

Tony used other cameras across his suit to look in 360 degrees. He noticed the brown-haired girl holding her hands around his head, her fingers moving in weird ways. A hint of red, translucent energy was emanating from her fingers.

Another telepath? No, this feels different.

"It's not working," Tony suddenly commented and continued to walk forward towards the staff. "But hey, now that I've seen you, I think I found your files in the database. Wanda Maximoff... and Pietro Maximoff."

Clank!

Shocked by Tony addressing them all of a sudden, the twins failed to react before Tony could grab the scepter.

Then finally, Tony turned around and looked at the two figures clearly. Wanda was dressed in simple pants and a dark, patterned dress while Pietro wore a tracksuit. Both of them looked physically unstable, with dark circles under their eyes.

By then, Jarvis searched through the database of the country and handed him a report that unsettled Tony a bit. Their parents died in a US-backed bombing, which used Stark Industries weapons at that time.

The cycle continues. I'm their Winter Soldier, I guess…

"Did you know you were kidnapped by Hydra? Yeah, a Nazi-era evil organization that tried to take over the world. Even in Sokovia… Ah, you won't believe me even if I say it."

"W-Why didn't it work on you?" Wanda murmured in disbelief.

"Work what?" Tony asked.

"My…" Wanda raised her hands towards Tony again, her breath hitched. "You…"

Let's go home.

Tony gripped the scepter tighter and gave out the command. "Do it!"

Pooooof!

Out of nowhere, a dozen Iron Guardian armors became visible, coming out of their stealth mode. Out of their bodies, a thick green smoke spilled, sweeping through the whole area at a speed unmatched.

Thud!

Wanda fell to the floor instantly.

"What did you do to my sist—"

Boom!

"Aargh!" Tony fell back harshly, shocked. He felt physical pain across his body, his face, and mainly his chest. His armor sensors screamed danger at that blunt impact.

Thud!

With a metallic sound, he crashed on the floor, and right in front of him was Pietro, his shoulder smashed into his chest, also unconscious by now.

"Sir, he ran at Mach 20 speed," Jarvis notified.

Tony sucked in a cold breath and looked at the damage to his body. A chunk of his helmet was missing, and a major chunk of his chest armor was in ruins, some of the nanotech pieces didn't even get time to move apart and absorb the damage. They simply ruptured into Tony's chest, wounding him like shrapnel yet again.

"That was… dangerous." Tony breathed, feeling the impact as the adrenaline faded. It wasn't life-threatening or even serious, but it was significant damage to his body. "I seriously need to upgrade my suit."

Still, Tony had enough emergency features in his suit to keep running. He got up and looked around as the mist faded away. Then, he injected a serum into Pietro and Wanda's body to keep them asleep through the journey.

After that, two Iron guardians came over, encased the twins, and flew away towards X-Mansion as that was the only place Tony believed they could be held safely.

As for the massive Hydra facility, Tony truly bombed it to smithereens using an Arc Reactor-based bomb. By the end, only a small crater was left in its place, everything else obliterated to nothing.

"Jarvis, how many days have I been playing superhero tag?"

"Three days and four hours, Sir."

Sighing, Tony flew into the sky, heading back home. He felt slightly clearer in the head now, the anger wasn't completely lost but it was under control.

"Start analyzing the data we collected," Tony ordered. "Oh, and get Dr. Cho over to Stark Tower—pretty sure I'm not supposed to bleed this much. Speaking of bleeding, how's the stock holding up?"

"I bought the dip, Sir."

"Good job."
