Chapter 5: A Fresh Start

How are you aware of my ex-husband and Fiona because I just found out that you were the one that sent those messages," Sara said confidently.

Ken was shocked by her words and he had no choice but to spill everything. Ken told her everything about Fiona and Jose. He didn't want to hurt her feelings by telling her openly, so he decided to do that through chat anonymously.

He wanted Sara to know what was going on; he couldn't keep it to himself as his conscience would judge.

"I had to do all that to save you, Sara, because I love you! I've loved you ever since we met, I just had to kill my feelings for you because you were in love with my friend. You chose my friend over me. You are one of the reasons I traveled out because I wanted to clear my head over everything," Ken said.

After saying everything, Ken left immediately as he was ashamed. Sara stood there in shock trying to process all that she had heard as she didn't understand what was going on anymore. Sara tried to distract herself from all this by doing some little chores in the house, as her past will keep interfering in her presence.

A few hours later, she got a text from Ken. He apologized about everything that had happened, stating it was his fault but his heart was struck by Cupid's arrow. He told her about the job and sent her the location as she should be there early the next day because his friend, the CEO of the company, doesn't condone lateness.

When she read it, she was very happy and finally had gotten a job. She couldn't wait to resume work as she needed the money for expenses in the house. She replied to the text, thanking him, and immediately got up to look for a nice outfit to wear.

Sara spoke to her friend who owns an after-school center where parents could drop their kids after school hours. Her friend Rosa was happy about the great news and was happy to have them. Rosa has been one of her good friends she met in California, and she was happy she met someone like her.

Sara was very much prepared for the next day as she felt more energetic than ever. She couldn't wait for the next day to come so she could resume.

"Mom, I have never seen you this excited before," Jade asked.

"Oh, my son, I am so happy as your mom just got a job," Sara said, feeling excited.

"We are happy for you," the kids chorused.

She thanked them and hugged them passionately as she couldn't imagine that the children that were in her stomach had grown so big now. She remembered when her ex-mother-in-law called her barren, how they blamed her constantly for not giving birth to a child, and now she is a proud mother of three: two lovely boys and a gorgeous girl.

"Alright kids, it is time to sleep because mommy has a long day tomorrow, so go to bed now," Sara said, smiling.

The kids rushed to give her a hug and peck on her cheeks, and they went to their room. She looked at them and shook her head.

"Come in," the CEO said with so much authority.

Sara entered and became frightened, but she tried to put herself together as this was what she has always wanted. The CEO raised his head and looked at her, giving her a strict gaze.

"How may I help you?" the CEO asked.

Richard, who is the CEO of a big company in California, inherited this position from his dad who had died long ago due to an illness. Richard took over the company at a very young age.

"My name is Sara Johnson, and I am here to seek for a job, directed here by Ken," Sara replied.

Richard stopped and looked at her properly from head to toe.

"Have we met before? Your face looks familiar," Richard asked, wanting to be sure.

"No, sir... We haven't," Sara replied.

Sara knew he also looked familiar and the sound of his voice, she was sure she had heard that before. As she was trying to think, she was distracted by him.

"I am in need of a secretary and also a personal assistant as that is the job that is available for now...hope you are ready to do that," Richard asked.

"Yes... Yes, sir, I'm ready for any job," Sara said excitedly.

"Can you do both?" Richard asked.

"Yes, sir... I can," Sara replied.

"Alright... Your work starts immediately. Go get a broom and a mop, I want you to clean this office and it should be thoroughly clean. After that, you'll get my lunch. I've already placed an order, your work is just to pick it up. And one more thing, I have a package which was sent to me, you'll go to the logistics company where it was dropped to pick it up. Mind you, the item in it is very fragile, try to handle it with care," he ordered.

"That's all for now, others will come in... Hope you got all that I said?" Richard asked. He left without waiting for her response.

Sara realized that it was going to be hard work for her, and she wondered how she can accomplish all this. She wondered where she would start as she scanned the room. The room was dirty and filled with dust.

"How can he be this dirty?... He just turned me into a maid," Sara thought.

She knew if she continued this work, she might end her life due to stress, but she had no choice, and she had to continue. She sat in the chair trying to figure out where to start, when she heard a sound from the movement of the door, she immediately stood up and started working.
