Chapter 99 Victor’s Proposition

As the fire crackled softly in the clearing, our nerves were stretched thin, waiting for Victor Bloodthorn’s arrival. Eve paced back and forth, her eyes never leaving the shadows that enveloped the edge of our camp. Felix leaned against a tree, arms crossed, his face set in a permanent scowl of suspicion. Sasha and Lily huddled close, whispering their doubts and concerns. The tension was palpable, thick enough to cut through with a blade.

Just as the first hint of dawn began to creep across the sky, a rustling of leaves signaled Victor’s approach. He emerged from the darkness, his imposing figure casting long shadows over the camp. His expression was inscrutable, but there was a hint of urgency in his stride.

“Thank you for coming,” he said, his voice a deep, controlled rumble that held an edge of authority.

Eve stopped pacing and turned to face him, her eyes narrowed in suspicion. “We’re not here because we trust you, Bloodthorn. We’re here because we have no other choice.”
