Gabriel was leaning against his car, fiddling with his phone, when he noticed Eveline, who was furious, making her way out of the house and towards him.
"Is everything okay? Did she tell you why she went to the doctor?" Gabriel inquired. Despite being aware of the reality, he preferred to hear it from Eveline herself.
"No, a phone call interrupted our conversation even before we could begin," Eveline muttered, her chest heaving forcefully as she attempted to calm her emotions.
Gabriel paused in realization.
"Maybe I am overstressing." Eveline spoke when she had calmed down.
She had been doubting even the smallest details to the point of intrusiveness. But why did her mother's discovery of the lie take her by surprise?
Gabriel gazed at her dejectedly. He tried to say, 'No, you are not,' but he wasn't sure he could.
