From the outside, the place looked like a time-worn shell, hardly worthy of its reputation, but that all changed the instant they stepped through the doors. The interior was an impossible sight: the walls glowed with a dim glow, as if hundreds of gems were embedded in translucent ice, reflecting soft lights in shades of blue and white.</p>

<p>The floor was a perfect mirror, so polished that each step seemed to float, leaving behind a light trail of frost. In the distance, irregular columns supported a ceiling that looked like a frozen night sky, dotted with sparkles that simulated stars. Gloriana, beside her, let out a faint sigh, as princess of an empire she had seen countless such dazzling places, yet.... A palace made of ice was different.</p>
