Chapter Thirty-Nine: The Man in Black is a Good Guy

White Emperor followed outside but saw no trace of the man. It wasn't possible; the man was injured and couldn't have gone far.

"Danjun, did you see a man in black leave from here?"

As soon as the words left his mouth, White Emperor regretted them. How could he expect Danjun to just stand there obediently if she had seen him? She would have gone to catch him instead of standing here so quietly.

"I saw him. He went that way."

"You saw him?" White Emperor stared at Danjun for a long time, still somewhat doubtful, before following her.

Once White Emperor was far away, Danjun breathed a sigh of relief. She called out softly inside, "Brother in black, come out quickly! My dad has left."

But there was no response from inside, and then a plume of black smoke flew out...

"Hey, why did you leave without saying goodbye?" Danjun pouted, feeling uneasy.

"Rascal!" Suddenly, Danjun straightened up.

"Do you know who he is? Why did you let him go like that?"

"Dad, please let him go! He's my friend."

Although White Emperor was strict with Danjun, he still doted on her. When Danjun made White Emperor angry, she would just act spoiled, though it wasn't always effective, she still managed to avoid some punishment.

But this time, White Emperor didn't buy it. "Friend? Where did you find so many shady friends? Why didn't I know?"

Danjun sighed helplessly. How did the man in black become a shady character?

"Dad, the man in black is not a bad person. He saved my life once!"

"Consider this as repaying him for saving me back then."

White Emperor waved his sleeves and folded his hands behind his back.

"I won't pursue this matter further, but you have to tell me who he is and why he wanted to assassinate the Heavenly Emperor."

Danjun hesitated for a moment, then shook her head.

"What? You don't even know who he is, yet you still protect him like this? Are you out of your mind?"

White Emperor was so angry that smoke seemed to come out of his head. How did he end up with a daughter like this? If he hadn't disciplined her strictly, she might have been kidnapped by some scoundrel.

"It's not like that. The man in black doesn't talk much, and whenever I ask him, he always ignores me."

As she spoke, Danjun felt a bit guilty; she felt like she was being cold-hearted. Although it was the truth, she couldn't help but feel that her father would look down on her now...

"Although the man in black doesn't talk much, he has a warm heart. I can tell from the fact that he saved me that time."

Danjun tried her best to salvage the image of herself and the man in black in her father's eyes.

"Alright, alright. I warn you, you'd better not meet him again in the future. Otherwise, every time I see him, I'll beat him up."

"Why..."

Danjun wanted to argue with White Emperor, but she stopped herself in time. She knew White Emperor's temperament very well; if she continued to argue, he could argue all day long, and it was better to be smart and yield.

Danjun didn't argue with White Emperor anymore, and naturally, he had no reason to continue. He turned and left with a flick of his sleeve.

Danjun played with the hem of her pale yellow skirt, her lively eyes peeking inside. Seeing White Emperor disappear from view, she made a grimace inside, "You always try to scare me, but I won't listen to you. I'm going to find the man in black now."

Her pale yellow figure bounced and disappeared bit by bit into the flowers, like a cheerful butterfly.
