Chapter Thirty-Seven: Reforging the Sword

Shen Zixuan whispered in Su Xue'er's ear, "Mother, is Yu Zhengpo my great-grandfather?"

Tang Ruoyu, standing beside him, pinched Shen Zixuan.

"Ouch, Ruoyu, why did you pinch me?"

"What's the matter?" Yushi turned and asked.

Shen Zixuan quickly stepped in front of Tang Ruoyu, waving his hands. "Nothing, nothing, I just got bitten by a mosquito."

Tang Ruoyu smiled wryly at this ridiculous excuse. But then he suddenly stepped in front of me—was he trying to protect me?

Su Xue'er immediately took Yushi's arm and said coquettishly, "Yushi, I'm a bit tired. Shall we go back?"

"Alright."

With that, Yushi and Su Xue'er turned and left. Seeing this, Shen Zixuan said to Tang Ruoyu, "Ruoyu, I want that too."

Tang Ruoyu glared at Shen Zixuan. "Want what, you big-headed fool."

Then she jogged after Su Xue'er. Shen Zixuan, feeling a bit downcast, followed along.

At the General's Mansion, Su Xue'er and Yushi went to Yushi's bedroom, as Yushi insisted on checking her condition. Tang Ruoyu went to the left side hall, and Shen Zixuan went to the right side hall.

Su Xue'er sat by the bed as Yushi brought her a cup of tea. "Xue'er, drink this." Then he sat down next to her.

"Yushi, what do you think of Xiaoxuan and Ruoyu?"

"Those two? I think they're quite good."

"How so?"

"Look, Tang Ruoyu is steady and quick-witted, capable of great responsibilities. And although Shen Zixuan appears carefree, he's very serious when it comes to his duties. I believe he just needs an opportunity, and that opportunity is Tang Ruoyu."

"Ruoyu!"

Su Xue'er and Yushi spoke at the same time. Su Xue'er laughed and said, "We thought of the same thing. But, Xiaoxuan's true identity..."

"A ten-thousand-year-old Dark Moon Shadow Kirin, right?"

Su Xue'er was shocked, looking at Yushi with tearful, pleading eyes. "Yushi, I beg you, can you spare him?"

"That's very difficult for me to do." Yushi put on a heartless expression and slowly stood, turning his back to Su Xue'er. "I can't gamble with the safety of the entire continent."

What Su Xue'er did next shocked Yushi.

Su Xue'er stood up and knelt behind Yushi. "I've never knelt to beg anyone. I hope you'll spare him for my sake, can you?"

Yushi turned to see Su Xue'er kneeling there and quickly squatted down to help her up, but she refused to stand. "Xue'er, get up first."

"Promise me, please?"

Her eyes were filled with a heart-wrenching plea.

"Get up first, and I'll agree, alright?"

"Okay..."

After Su Xue'er stood up, Yushi embraced her and said, "I'm afraid you'll kill him."

"Don't be afraid. If I wanted to kill him, I would have done it long ago."

Su Xue'er looked up and asked, "You've known all along?"

"I knew from the moment we first met."

"Then why?"

"I just wanted to see if he treated you well. If he tried to use you, I would have killed him immediately."

"And now?"

"Since he sincerely acknowledges you as his mother, how could I make you heartbroken?"

Su Xue'er wiped away her tears, looking aggrieved. "So you were just playing with me earlier?"

Yushi laughed heartily. "Who told you to react so dramatically?"

Su Xue'er lightly punched Yushi, then sat down. Yushi sat beside her and said, "Do you know why I wanted you to marry me back then?"

"Hmm? Why?"

"Because I wanted to use you to drive away Shen Yueru and uncover the forces behind her."

"Shen Yueru?"

"That woman is not simple. She's probably after the keys to the Four Divine Artifacts. The Spirit Master Pavilion originally had two keys—one was with my master, and the other was secretly kept in the pavilion. The person who killed my master was definitely after the keys."

Su Xue'er understood. "So, this is why you said you didn't believe Yan Chuxue was your enemy?"

"Exactly. Now I have a rough idea of how many people are supporting her. Originally, I intended to use you for this purpose, but unexpectedly..."

Su Xue'er interrupted, "You accidentally fell in love with me?"

Yushi laughed. "Yes."

He then gazed out the window with deep emotion and said, "Before meeting you, I wandered this continent alone through cold nights, spring awakenings, scorching summers, sudden rains, autumn chills, and migrations of geese. After enduring heavy snow, biting winds, and the passage of time, I finally met you, and in that moment, everything changed."

Su Xue'er smiled gently and leaned on Yushi's shoulder.

"If there were no wars or chaos, no high positions, and we could just have a piece of land to farm in spring and harvest in autumn, living peacefully without worries, how wonderful that would be."

"Xue'er," Yushi turned and grasped her hand, "once the continent is at peace, I'll hand this position to someone else. We'll find a secluded place to live a tranquil life."

"Yes."

At this moment, Yu Ke's voice came from outside the door, "Lord Commander, Lord Jiezi asked me to bring you a box."

"Come in."

"Yes, sir."

Yu Ke entered, placed the box on the table, and then left. The box was four feet long. Yushi opened it and was overjoyed. He said to Su Xue'er, "Xue'er, this is your reforged Purple Jade Sword."

Hearing that it was the Purple Jade Sword, Su Xue'er was overjoyed. She picked it up, feeling the familiar sensation. She touched it and could clearly tell that the material was vastly superior to before. She asked, "What grade is it now?"

"It should be at the level of a Supreme Divine Weapon."

"A Supreme Divine Weapon..." Su Xue'er looked at Yushi in astonishment. "That must have cost a lot."

"Nothing is more important than you. Now, it would take at least two peak-level Spirit God experts clashing with this sword to break it. Otherwise, it's impossible to shatter it."

"Mm."

Just as Yushi was about to kiss Su Xue'er, Yu Ke's voice was heard again, "Lord Commander, Great Grandfather San is looking for you."

Yushi's face turned angry. He didn't reply, but Su Xue'er said, "Why don't you go... mmm~"

Thinking this would let Yushi spare her? That was impossible. After a long moment, Yushi released Su Xue'er, and then they heard Yu Ke's voice again, "Lord Commander, are you still there?"

"I'm here, I'll be right there. You go ahead."

"Yes, sir."

After Yu Ke left, Su Xue'er pretended to be angry, "You hurt me."

"It's nothing. I think Grandfather San wants me to prepare for the wedding ceremony. I have to go now."

"Mm."

With that, Yushi left. Su Xue'er put away the Purple Jade Sword and then walked towards the left side hall.

Su Xue'er arrived at the entrance of the left side hall. She knocked on the door and said, "Ruoyu, are you there? It's Su Xue'er."

"Coming." She heard footsteps, and then the door opened to reveal Tang Ruoyu. "Come in, Xue'er."

After Su Xue'er sat down, Tang Ruoyu poured her some tea. Su Xue'er said, "Ruoyu, can you handle what I'm about to tell you?"

Tang Ruoyu chuckled lightly, "Xue'er, what's wrong with you? What can't I handle?"

"It's about Xiaoxuan."

Tang Ruoyu looked nonchalant. "What could be so shocking about him?" Just as she picked up the teacup, Su Xue'er said, "He's a spirit beast in human form."

"Crash~" Upon hearing this, Tang Ruoyu dropped the cup to the ground. She was stunned, unable to believe that he was actually a spirit beast in human form.

Tang Ruoyu stammered, "The Commander... does the Commander know?"

"He knows."

"This is the secret you mentioned after the tournament? It's indeed quite shocking."

Su Xue'er lowered her eyes, unsure of what to say.

"Xue'er, I really can't accept this."

"Why?" Su Xue'er looked at Tang Ruoyu, whose tears were already streaming down her cheeks. She was crying because Shen Zixuan was a spirit beast.

"I'm sorry."

"Do you know who my mother is?"

Su Xue'er shook her head, and Tang Ruoyu said, "In terms of age, my father isn't much older than the Commander. The Commander's father met my father when he was in his sixties. At that time, my father was less than thirty years old, and the Commander was already around twenty. My father and the Commander's father were best friends. But do you know why they were best friends?"

Su Xue'er shook her head again, and Tang Ruoyu continued, "When my father was in his fifties, he met my mother. My father was at the mid-Spirit Saint stage then. After they got married, and I was born, a disaster struck. The Xiyun Empire surrounded the Tang family because my mother was a spirit beast in human form. The Xiyun Empire demanded the Spirit Master Pavilion capture my mother. To avoid implicating my father, my mother chose to destroy her spiritual core and die. It was only because of my father's relationship with the Commander's father that I was spared. The Commander's father felt guilty, so the Spirit Master Pavilion vowed to protect the Tang family forever."

With that, Tang Ruoyu broke down in tears. Su Xue'er hugged her gently and said, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to."
