Chapter 46
She frowned, wondering why Emily was here. She remembered that Cassius had banned her from the castle. Why was she still here?
Anastasia hid behind the pillow, watching, intently. Emily walked forward, approaching Cassius at the top stairs.
"I thought I made it clear that you were not to return to the castle?" Cassius brows arched. "What are you doing here?"
"My King."
Emily slowly began to undress herself in front of Cassius, letting her gown fall to her feet. Cassius narrowed his eyes at her, his lips pressed into a thin line.
Emily stood there, her body exposed to Cassius.
Anastasia could feel her heart racing with fear. Her jaw clenched tightly, and her hands balled into a fist as she glared at Emily.
Emily reached into her undress and she pulled out a dagger, it's blade gleaming in the chandelier's candle light. Without warning, she cut her wrist, allowing the blood to flow freely.
"My King," she said, her voice barely a whisper.
Cassius eyes blackened, hunger and rage taking over him. He blocked the distance between them, pinning Emily against the pillar. Grabbing her wrist, he sank his fangs into her skin and he began to drink from her.
Emily moaned, her eyes darting around, until it landed on Anastasia. A smile of satisfaction formed on Emily's lips as she pulled Cassius closer.
Anastasia brows furrowed, forming a deep crease. She narrowed her eyes at Emily, feeling her hands tighten into a fist.
Turning around, she stormed out of there, her footsteps echoing in the hallway. When she reached her room, she shut the door with a loud bang. Her breathe hitched, the scene replaying in her head over and over.
Anastasia frowned. Why was she feeling jealous seeing Cassius with another woman.
She gritted her teeth, glaring at the wall. She would not let these feelings control her.
Meanwhile, at the other side, Cassius staggered backward, regaining himself back. He glared at Emily, his hand shooting out to grab her neck.
"What games are you playing?" He asked, his face twisted with anger.
Emily's eyes widened with fear as she tried to speak. "Ki.. king Cassius please."
"How dare you defy my orders? Are you testing my patience?"
"Please…." A single tear escaped her eyes.
Cassius released her, turning to a guard. "Lock her in the dungeon."
"What… your… highness.. I didn't mean it that way," she pleaded, trying to follow him but the guard grabbed her, lifting her on his shoulder.
At the sound of door closing, Cassius turned, his eyes falling on Anastasia's door. Had she been watching him?
He walked inside her room to find it empty. Where did she go? His eyes darted toward the sound of footsteps.
"Anastasia?"
Anastasia continued to walk, not bothering to turn around. She pulled the hood of the cloak over her head, trying to hide her identity from the guards but one of them noticed and he followed her.
"Leave me be," she demanded.
"My Queen where are you heading to?"
"To the woods. I need a moment alone," she replied, turning around to continue walking. The persistent footsteps from the guard made her blood boil.
"I don't need any guards to protect me!"
"My Queen King Cassius would not spare my head if he finds out you left the castle unprotected."
"Let the King go to hell. Do not follow me."
Despite the command from her, the guard continued to follow and she picked up her pace, running towards the gates. She slipped through and kept running, hearing the heavy footsteps of the guards chasing her behind.
She cursed under her breath. Why couldn't have her own privacy?
"Anastasia!"
She turned around at the familiar voice, to see Cassius standing there.
"I want to be alone."
"It's not safe in the woods."
"I don't care," she rolled her eyes, turning around to see Cassius standing in front of her. She gasped, taking a step backward. He grabbed her wrist.
"Let go of me."
"What is wrong with you?"
Anastasia glared at him, her eyes flashing with an intent to punch his face. Her blood boil when she recalled to the scene of him and Emily.
"I don't know. Why don't you ask yourself," she said, avoiding his gaze.
"Look at me," he ordered.
Why was he commanding her like he owned her?
He grabbed her chin, forcing her to look at him. The expression on his face was causing butterflies to gather in her stomach. His face fierce with his eyes darkening.
She narrowed her eyes at the expression he was giving her as if he was going to shred her clothes any moment from now. She felt her eyes stung when she remembered how he had pounced on Emily.
"You act like you care, yet you go behind my back to be with Emily."
She knew she was being childish right now. Why was she acting as if this marriage was real? Why does she flare up with anger and jealous anytime she thought about them?
Shouldn't she be looking forward to her new life when she leaves the Kingdom?
"What?"
"You should have just let the commander kill me during my execution. You shouldn't have stopped taking my blood. I could have been dead by now. You should have ended my life long ago to spare me from this torment!"
He looked at her, his eyes widening at her words.
"Had you been watching me and Emily?"
"I don't know," she whispered, trying to hide her emotions.
Without warning, he pulled her, sealing their lips for a deep kiss.
