Chapter 71

Chapter 71

Anastasia made her way to the throne room, where she found Cassius standing, staring intently at a letter. As she approached him, she silently hoped that nothing bad would happen and that Avena would be able to perform the spell successfully.

Cassius's brows were furrowed, and his forehead was creased. His hands gripped the parchment so tightly that it seemed it could tear at any moment.

"Cassius," she called out.

He raised his head, his expression cold.

"Is everything alright?" she asked.

"I have lost a lot," he said, staggering back and sinking into the throne. "I lost another relative who was traveling here to visit me."

"How?" she asked.

"He got infected, and the soldiers had to kill him," he replied.

Anastasia felt her heart clench at his words. "I'm sorry."

"It's alright," he said. "His body has been burned, and his ashes will be given to his family to bury."
