Bane of her existence

He was the bane of her existence. Lisa was certain of that as she glared up at his magnificent and elegantly posed masculine shape.

Lian Que was the last person she could have wanted to stumble upon after successfully making her escape from her kidnappers.

Lisa's entire body ached from a number of bruises and sheer exhaustion threatened to render her unconscious.

She hated Lian Que so much and she wished she could be anywhere else in the world except for the sad crouched position that she occupied on the ground at his feet. There, in the middle of a road, in a place unknown to her, Lisa wanted nothing more than to just let herself give in and live her fate to the devil before her but even she knew too well that that was something that she could never do. Ever!

"Are you coming with me or not?" His oh so familiar chilled voice with an edge reached her ears and Lisa shivered. She knew she was totally screwed. Lian Que was going to take her with him, whether she wanted to come along or not. He was merely feigning the decency to ask.

About a couple of months back, she could have sneered at him and turned her back but clearly, she was in no position to do that. Lisa wore only a thin cotton dress that was soaked with rain water and as much as she hated to admit it. She could most likely freeze to death or die of hunger if she did not take Lian Que's out stretched hand. Or worse, she could be recaptured by her kidnappers who clearly wanted her dead.

Her dark hazel eyes burned with nothing but anger as she looked up at his calm face that had a slight smirk which he wore whenever he knew that he had the upper hand in a situation, which he clearly did and that only seemed to rile her up more.

His subtle smirk grew slightly and Lisa wanted to roll her eyes as she took his hand and let him pull her up. The striking contrast of his warm hand against her cold one seemed to bring her a little comfort as she briefly remembered gone days where she had hated Lian Que much less.

"What are you doing here?" Lisa finally opened her lips to say something as she reluctantly let him cover her with his black coat.

The man that was standing so much close for her comfort paused and looked down at her, his metallic grey eyes unfathomable.

"Saving you, of course." He replied bluntly before he pulled away and walked towards his car that was packed a couple of steps away.

She had several questions ringing within her head and the one that stood out most was on how Lian Que had managed to find her. It was certainly not a coincidence. Asking him the very same question was reasonable but Lisa did not want to talk to him. Not yet anyway.

The lights from the head lamps nearly blinded her as she followed him and sat in the front seat besides him. She could have preferred it if he had let her sit in the backseat but clearly, Lian Que was hellbent on reminding her of his existence.

Lisa was quiet and did not even dare to look at him when the car started. She clutched his coat closer to her body for warmth and with her head leaning against the window, she let out a soft sigh and let herself relax after the worst three months of her life.

Her life had been perfect. Lisa had been happily engaged to her fiancé, Johnathan. Her dad was proud of her and her career had been more than successful. She also had her step sister and best friend by her side and with her wedding coming up, life couldn't have been more fulfilling but, it all went down the drain.

Her dad owned an imperial chain of famous hotels around the country and Lisa had been quite the heart throb because she was not only the heiress to one of the most powerful establishments globally but she was beautiful and generous as well.

Many suitors had tried to get her attention and affection but all their attempts had been in vain because she had already lost her heart to another. Jonathan Chan had been the apple of her eye and she loved him quite strongly despite having had her heart broken once.

Somehow, Lisa had searched deep within her heart and decided to try trusting someone again and it had all gone perfectly well after half a decade. She was going to marry him within a month and…she had no second doubts that he was the one. The one man that was destined for her.

One day after a long day at work, Lisa had decided to pay her fiancé a visit because she had barely seen him in two weeks and she missed him.

She got into her car and drove to his place that was only a couple of miles away from where she stayed and since she was starving, Lisa made a quick stop at his favorite takeout place and brought a meal for two.

Her fiancé had given her a key to his place and once she arrived, she entered unannounced to surprise him and honestly, Lisa was quite curious to see what he was doing.

She checked around the house and then dashed upstairs to his bedroom once she couldn't find him. The door was slightly open and Lisa paused in her tracks once she heard soft rhythmic sounds that were clearly coming from the room.

Instinctively, she peeked through the opening and the scene that she saw froze the blood in her veins. Her fiancé, Johnathan was scandalously entwinned with another woman on the king sized bed that was at the center of the room.

A small yet sharp shriek of shock and surprise escaped her lips before the paper bags she was holding dropped onto the ground, alerting the busy couple on the bed of her presence.

The blood drained from Johnathan's face once he saw her and in return, Lisa's chest tightened uncomfortably once she saw the face of the woman that was in bed with her fiancé.

It was her!? The last person in the world she could have thought capable of such betrayal.
