Chapter 2

Her daughter's tears wet her neck and pierced her heart. There was a moment when her heart softened. As a mother, how could she be ruthless and force her baby? As the daughter-in-law of Robert's family, she had to. "No one forced me. I was the one who was willing to give my daughter away." Grace was reluctant, yet she had to convince herself it was willing.

"The Anderson family is rich and powerful, so you must take advantage of this opportunity!" What a hypocritical statement. Grace felt very sick hearing it.

Jennifer's grip on her mom finally ran out of strength. Her mom had become snobbish and had become one who would sell out even her daughter for money. Jennifer's hands loosened, and she turned around powerlessly. Her hands were clenched into fists, and she was trying her best to keep herself from getting agitated. But she still couldn't control herself, and Jennifer yelled at her mom, "You like money so much, don't you? Okay, how much money are the Andersons paying you anyway? I can give you more money; please give me my freedom!"

Even if she borrowed from her friends and went to the bank to get a loan, she definitely wouldn't sell the rest of her life to a rich man. The owner of Anderson's house must be a very older man who paid for his wife because no one wanted to marry him! Asshole!

Grace deliberately mocked, "Can you give me that much money? If you can really give it, then I'll give you your freedom. The Andersons gave me half a billion dollars. Can you give it? I just give you your whole life; you can't make that much money. Jennifer, you have no choice anymore!"

Jennifer finally despaired. Grace was right. Jennifer couldn't give her mom half a billion dollars even if she found all her friends. Now, she realized that money was a good thing! Without money, she could not even control her own destiny.

"Mom, you really don't even want your daughter for money?" Jennifer asked in desperation, hoping that her mom would change her mind when she was in the most pain. "It doesn't matter if we don't have money, as long as the family is happy. Isn't a happy family what mom wants?"

"No matter what you say, it won't change my decision. I've already received the money, and the marriage license has been issued. If you want people to charge us with cheating on our marriage, or if you want your mom to die, find a way to get away!"

How Grace wanted to say to Jennifer, "My baby, just hang in there for a year. Everything will be over in a year, and we'll all be reunited as a family. But Grace couldn't say anything. She would only tell her daughter why she was marrying into the Anderson family once the man came to her willingly.

Jennifer gets desperate answers. She wanted to hit the wall and die. But she couldn't abandon her mom even if she was cruel. Jennifer said nothing, grabbed her bag, and stormed out of the home she now hated.

Grace turned to look at her daughter running out of the house, tears finally streaming down her face. "Jennifer, I'm the one who did you wrong. You were doomed at birth. Whether it's the suffering now or the misery in the future, none of this can be changed."
