Chapter 11: "Sports Day, Fun Day!"

"As a celebration for the nutrition month. Our school launched a special day for us to showcase our skills and talents, as well as demonstrating our leadership and unity." The council vice-president announced on stage.

The students were lining on the open field's ground, wearing sportswear attire.

Every school year, the school will held a Sports day. Everyone can participate and the class who can win the most wins on the competitions will be held as class of the year. This is basically a competition between each class for different grade levels.

Even us Seniors must at least have one representative per section. Some sections refused to compete, they probably lost hope because class A always win every single time.

Well, not this time!

"Now, let us welcome our council president for his welcoming remarks."

As Zen Liang stepped on the stage, the crowd also welcomed him with an applause.

"Greetings, everyone. Let us make this day productive." He said with a poker face, as usual.

"That doesn't sound welcoming at all..." I mumbled and sighed.

Zen Liang cut the ribbon with scissors. Indicating that sports day is officially starting.

The area was filled with applause.

Let's start!

----------------

Everyone is busy with their respective events.

"You've got this!"

"Yeah!"

"The badminton match will start in 5 minutes."

"Got it!"

"Good luck!"

"Ugh... I'm nervous..."

Everyone is occupied. All we have to do now is work harder!

"Jian, let's get going."

"Alright."

I chose to tag along with Chet and the other guys for team matches, since I'm not particularly good at any sports.

The first team match we are participating is the 'Three-legged race'.

This game is done by standing beside your partner and tying one's left leg with the others right leg until the finish line. The pair that will finish the race first wins.

"Are you guys ready?" the game organizer asked.

"It is an advantage for us because Chet is an athlete. He is a serious player. I trust this man—" I proudly thought to myself, but it was shattered when I looked at Chet munching on a bag of chips.

"Why are you still eating?!" I furiously exclaimed and took away his food.

"Aw! My chips!" he pouted.

"Stay focus!"

He sighed and wiped his hand. "Fine, fine."

"Let's do this." Chet smirked and positioned his body.

"On your marks..."

"Ready..."

"Get set..."

"Hehe." Chet softly giggled as the MC started his count.

Why do I feel like something bad will hap—

"Go!"

Before I could even finish what I was thinking, Chet already dash out after the go signal, with me on the side, almost getting dragged by him.

"SON OF A—" I screamed, fighting for my freaking life.

----------------

"The winner is... Class D!" The MC announced the winner.

"Woohoo! We won, bro!" Chet happily jumped while holding my lifeless arm.

"Y-yeah..." I lifelessly uttered. I felt my soul leaving my body.

"Three more games to go!" he excitedly added.

"Please remind me why did I even agree to this…!" I complained while getting pulled by Chet.

----------------

"I hope you guys are good at jumping!" The MC started. "Because now, we'll be playing... Sack race!"

"Oh, great..." I sarcastically mumbled.

Sack race. I think everyone already heard this game. It's basically about wearing a sack in your legs that's long enough to reach your waist and hopping forward from the starting point to the end.

"Ready... Get set..."

"You got this man! Just hop a past it to us as fast as possible. No pressure!" Chet cheered.

"Easy for you to say, you're an athlete!"

"Hehe. Am I?" he replied and looked away.

Oh, well... I brought this upon myself...

"Go!" The whistle started and hopped as fast as I can.

"Ahh!" I shouted while hopping fearlessly.

----------------

"It's cool, man. I know you suck at races." Chet 'comforted' me.

"Was that supposed to be comforting?"

We eventually lose the sack race. Although, we still have a lot of events to score.

"You guys should rest first." Miya came up and brought us water.

"Oh hey, Miya!" Chet greeted as he took the water. "Thanks."

"No worries." She smiled. A smile that always get me.

"I think I've been recharged." I whispered to Chet.

"Ew. You're so cheesy, man." he replied with a hunt of cringe on his face.

"Look who's talking..."

"How about you, Jian? Stay hydrated, alright?" She sweetly asked.

"Y-yeah... T-thanks..." I shyly uttered.

"Let him die from thirst." Riri interfered.

I didn't even notice this rascal here...

"Why are you even here?" I glared at her.

"Hey, I am also a student here." She answered. "And besides, I want to see you lose. Haha!" she added.

"Damn you..."

"Hehe..." She giggled while hiding behind Miya and sticking her tongue out.

"The match will start in 5 minutes. We should get going." Our classmate called us.

"Good luck, guys." Miya stated.

"Yeah, we got this."

"Don't let them kick your butts too hard! Haha." —Riri.

----------------

The next game is 'Tug of War'. It is played between two opposing teams that will pull the opposite ends of the rope until one drags the other over the central line.

"Heh... Would you look at that, we're against the losers."

And unfortunately, our team is up against class A.

"Easy win." Another added.

"Cocky bastards..."

That's not the worst thing though...

"Why is Zen Liang there?"

Yep. He'll be leading their class.

"But he's already on the basketball team."

"I heard the teachers forced him to participate on this."

The whispering slowly faded as we positioned. We are now holding unto the rope. I was placed in front, across Zen Liang who's also in the first row.

"Three..." The referee counted.

My eyes and Zen Liang's eyes, staring deeply into each other.

"Two..."

I can't take my eyes off his. It was like it's just me and him.

"One..."

My rival... And me...

The whistle blew, indicating that the game has started.

As the crowd went cheering, Zen Liang still didn't take his gaze off me, so did I.

"Pull!"

"Pull harder!"

I tried my best pulling back as we were being pulled in. My feet are almost crossing the central line. I pulled even harder, it eventually went well.

"W-we got this!"

"Damn..."

Then suddenly, a stronger force pulled us in causing us to fell down.

I closed my eyes as I fell. When I slowly opened my eyes once again. I found myself on Zen Liang's arms.

"Ugh... Seriously..." He uttered.

It turns out I fell right on top of him.

He then turned his gaze on me and smirked. "I guess we're even now."

"W-what??" I can feel my cheeks and ears burning.

I quickly stood up and covered my face, knowing that its redness is visible.

"T-this is not over!" I exclaimed while pointing on him.

His face looked puzzled.

"I-I'm going!" I hurriedly left.

"What's with him?"

"I don't know."

"Jian, are you good? Why are you red?" Chet shouted while chasing me.

"I'm not!!"

"Hell yeah, you are!"
