'For real?'
[ For real. ]
Lex wanted to jump in excitement but he was currently being carried in Rio's arms. Jumping wasn't exactly possible in that situation.
'Do you know what my ability is?'
[ I still don't know the exact details but I can tell that it is going to be awesome. ]
'That's not telling me much.'
Lex felt his feet touching the solid ground as Rio put him down. The duo stood inside a kitchen any chef would want to have.
Everything around Lex looked brand new as though it had never been touched. Be it the marble shelves, a huge oven, or the cooking stove. Their surfaces shined brightly and reflected the light thrown by the ceiling lights.
The kitchen completely contrasted the old-school look given by the mansion's hall. The modern technology stood out more in comparison to the old-school look.
"Rio, what exactly are you looking for?"
Rio was currently rummaging through the top shelves. She did this while levitating in the air.
"Anything that I can find to eat. I am not a very good cook, the very reason I was searching for a butler." Rio replied absentmindedly. "I don't how well you cook so I am taking out something for backup."
After a few more minutes, Rio managed to pull out two cups of instant ramen, making Lex facepalm.
"We won't be needing those any time soon. Show me what ingredients you have in your fridge and I will make something to eat." Lex sighed.
Rio looked skeptical but still allowed Lex to take a peek at the items inside her fridge. Much to the latter's surprise, some fresh stuff was present in the fridge.
He also found some leftover rice, allowing him to decide on what he should prepare.
"For the time being, I will be making omelet rice for us to eat." Lex finalized. "Also, stop looking at me with suspiciousness. I can cook well."
Rio didn't look convinced by his words. Regardless, she decided to leave him alone in the kitchen.
[ Looks like you weren't lying. You really do know how to cook. ] Elfie said in an impressed tone.
'My father was mostly away due to work so I learned to cook at a very young age. Don't be surprised by how good I am at domestic work.'
[ You are definitely one of the most anti-main character main character that I have ever seen. ]
'That sentence makes sense and doesn't make sense at the same time.'
Alongside the light bantering with Elfie, Lex started preparing the meal. The modern technology in Rio's house surprised him.
While making the omelets, the pan directed the exact temperature and time required to perfect the omelet. Simultaneously, Lex prepared the fried rice to go with the omelet.
Thirty minutes later, Lex filled two plates with the omelet rice. He quickly picked up a bottle of ketchup from the fridge and started making his way out of the kitchen.
'Uh, Elfie, mind guiding me to Rio's location?' Lex questioned.
The moment he stepped foot out of the kitchen, Lex knew it would take him a long time to find Rio. Moving through a large mansion was not an easy task.
[ Try calling out for her. ] Elfie suggested. [ I don't want to waste my energy reserves on such a simple task. ]
'What are you, a low battery YPhone?'
[ Nice save right there and no, that's far from it. I am talking about the EE I have managed to save to awaken a portion of your ability. If I use it to locate Rio, you will have to wait longer to awaken your ability. ]
"Rio!" Lex didn't waste any time and shouted out the name of his employer.
In the blink of an eye, Rio materialized in front of him, her silver hair flipping in the air. A surprised expression was present on her face when she looked at the beautifully presented omelet rice in Lex's hands.
"It looks delicious…" Rio eyed the omelet rice hungrily.
Lex was sure that if she didn't eat the food soon, she would start drooling.
"All right, let's eat this." Rio smiled and held on to Lex's right shoulder. The latter was prepared for what was about to come as he held on to the plates and ketchup tightly.
In the blink of an eye, he was standing beside an enormous king-sized bed in one of the many rooms present inside the mansion.
The room looked like the hideout of a gamer. A huge 70-inch TV was mounted on the wall alongside every generation of gaming console possible.
A gaming PC was set up in the right corner of the room, armed with all kinds of equipment. One could tell that the person really liked their things to be organized considering the quality of cable management.
Rio sat down on the bed and eagerly looked at the plates of food in Lex's hands. Lex placed the plates on the bed and held the ketchup bottle in his right hand.
"Anything you would like me to write?" he asked in a professional tone.
"Write my name."
Lex nodded and slowly wrote Rio's name on her omelet rice. As soon as he was done, Rio lunged at the food.
'She is eating like she hasn't had food for a few days.' Lex smiled.
It looked as if Rio was directly inhaling food instead of chewing it. It was clear from her expressions that she was enjoying the food immensely.
"Lex, will you please sit down." Rio suddenly instructed halfway through her meal.
Lex obliged and continued to look at her eating.
[ Ahem Lex. ] Elfie coughed. [ Maybe you should stop looking at her and eat your own food? ]
For some reason, he felt that watching her eat was more enjoyable than eating his own food.
'I know but it's fascinating to just keep looking at her.' Lex sighed mentally. 'It's been quite a while since I have been in another person's company for this long, excluding the court trial or the police station.'
Soon enough, Rio had finished her food while Lex hadn't even started with his. When Rio looked at his plate, a confused expression appeared on her face.
"Why are you not eating?"
"You trusted me so easily. What if I mixed poison in the food?" Lex asked with a poker face.
"Well, it's not like I was living much of a life anyway. Though I have to admit, this was not the way I expected to die."
"What did you expect?"
"I expected myself to die alone in this mansion without anyone. At least I am dying after feeling alive for a few hours."
"Damn, looks like my plan to get you back for that joke earlier failed." Lex clicked his tongue in disappointment.
Rio blinked in confusion for a few seconds before a wry smile appeared on her face. "Using my own tricks against me. I have to be careful around you."
"I am powerless and harmless so no need. In fact, you can relax around me." Lex winked.
"Oh? Then what about this…"
Rio gracefully bent forward such that she was looking up into Lex's eyes. She set the plates aside and slowly moved forward.
'Looks like I landed into the nest of a teasing master.' Lex gulped nervously.
Rio was almost on top of Lex while the latter barely moved. Seeing his paralyzed self, Rio extended her right hand forward…
…And flicked his forehead.
"Thank you for the food." Rio smiled and got back. "Now eat yours quickly and we will game for a bit."
Lex took a deep breath to calm himself before nodding.
'I am going to have quite an interesting life here…'
