Malakai moved away from his mother, not too far, but enough to draw the upcoming fight away from her and Amari. He growled, his fur standing on end, as he faced the bush where the growl came from. Suddenly, he heard a growl behind him. He turned around, his eyes scanning the area, and let out a low, menacing growl. The growling wasn't deep like his, but it was definitely a big animal.
Turning around, he found nothing. The growl sounded from atop, and he looked up, his eyes searching the trees, but he saw nothing. He didn't know what or how it was doing this, but as he was looking, he felt danger lurking, watching him. But it was too late.
He found himself rolling on the ground, his paws scrambling to get a grip on the slippery earth. He felt a sharp scratch on his side, and his eyes widened as he saw a flash of black fur. But when he was about to take the upper hand, it disappeared. He didn't know what he was facing, or where it had gone.
