Chapter 52: The Serpent's Gaze

Malakai's instincts screamed at him to lick his wounds, to soothe the burning pain where the serpent's fangs had pierced his skin.

But he knew better than to look away from his opponent, even for a moment. The serpent's gaze was hypnotic, its eyes seeming to bore into Malakai's very soul.

He kept his distance, aware that if the serpent wrapped itself around him, it would be all over. But this meant he couldn't use his bite or scratch attacks, his usual arsenal.

His only option was to call out spikes from the ground, but he knew he'd only get one chance to use that ability.

As the crowd began to grow restless, someone started booing, "BOOOOO, COME ON YOU MINDLESS BEASTS, START TEARING EACH OTHER APART!"

Others joined in, their voices growing louder, "THIS IS BORING. I THOUGHT THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A MAIN EVENT, WHERE'S THE BLOOD?" Some laughed, their jeers and catcalls filling the air.
