Chapter 146: The Midnight Departure

The darkness of the night was only illuminated by the faint moonlight that peeked through the windows of the inn.

Malakai's room was quiet, the only sound being the soft breathing of his family as they slept. Suddenly, a gentle "Pssss" echoed from outside the window, followed by a distinct whistle.

The sound was soft, but it was enough to snap Malakai's eyes open.

He lay still for a moment, his mind racing to remember who could be making that sound.

Then, he recalled the human siblings' promise to call him out with a whistle when they were ready to meet.

Malakai slowly got out of bed, his movements careful not to disturb his family. He looked around the room, taking one last glance at the familiar surroundings.

His family was still asleep, unaware of his departure. He had told them about his plans, but he knew they would worry if they knew he was leaving now.
