Marcus, now seated and analyzing the book he was given, feels like he's in a movie. The first paragraph he read mentions that the first hunter, Samuel Van Helsing, was a pioneer in the art of hunting because there were monsters subjugating humans. Curiously, many people in power around the world belong to hunter families and keep the population ignorant. Marcus thinks, "Well, here we are."
Putting the book aside, he starts to analyze something that excites him: the system panel. In it, he sees:
Name: Marcus Winchester
Race: Human
Strength: 9
Agility: 8
Constitution: 9
Level: 0
Hunter Energy: 0.8
Skills: (Empty)
Confirming this, Marcus thinks it's a system panel like in novels. Something in his subconscious tells him that the panel has more functions he can't see or use yet. He thinks his stats are slightly above normal due to the athletic life he once led and now maintains to some extent.
Analyzing the Hunter Energy tab, he thinks that, according to what Linda said, participating in the vampire's death allowed him to acquire some energy. Looking at the stats, he wonders how to increase them, as logically, reaching 10 points seems to be the maximum a human can achieve. He glances back at the book, thinking it might hold the answer. He starts flipping through it, finding that it introduces the method to advance from a normal human to an awakened one: hunting and absorbing energy using an ancient spell to maximize the effect.
At level 1, a hunter trains their external body, making it almost 2 to 3 times stronger than a non-awakened human. At level 2, a hunter trains their internal organs. For level 3, Marcus searches the book but finds nothing relevant, assuming the information must be purchased as Linda mentioned that everything has a price. Ignoring what's out of reach, he starts reading about the weaknesses and habits of monsters.
Linda walks over to him and says, I've finished your registration. When you reach level one, you'll be able to access the medallion to see activities. Marcus looks at the medallion and sees it says 0, speculating that it's his level. Linda says that for novices like him, there's a mission and hunting board. Marcus asks, How will I get weapons to kill vampires and vehicles to move around?
Linda, considering she has a good heart, says, I'll lend you a level 0 magical lockpick; it'll help you get a car. As for a weapon, come with me to the counter. Linda takes out a Smith & Wesson revolver with 5 silver bullets and 5 salt bullets from under the counter. She says, That's all I can do for you. Marcus takes the revolver and says, Thanks, I'll repay you. Linda responds, If you don't die.
