Chapter Three: The Encounter

Years continued to pass, and Alexander Blackwood, now ten years old, was growing into his magical abilities with increasing confidence and skill. He spent his days learning from his parents, mastering spells, and delving into the rich history of his family's magical heritage. Yet, despite the tranquility of his life, the sense of an impending challenge always lingered in the background.

One chilly autumn afternoon, Alexander was in the library, his favorite room in the apartment. The walls were lined with books, their spines worn from centuries of use. He was engrossed in a tome about elemental magic, his mind fully absorbed in the ancient symbols and incantations, when a soft knock echoed through the room.

"Alex," Jonathan called from the doorway, "let's take a walk. There's something I want to show you."

Curiosity piqued, Alexander closed the book and followed his father outside. The air was crisp, the leaves crunching underfoot as they walked through the now bare garden and onto the bustling streets of Greenwich Village. The vibrant energy of the city contrasted sharply with the serene world Alexander was accustomed to within the magical barriers of their home.

"Where are we going, Papa?" Alexander asked, his eyes wide with excitement.

Jonathan smiled mysteriously. "You'll see, my boy. There's a place I want you to visit, a place where you'll learn much about the world beyond our home."

They made their way to an inconspicuous brownstone building nestled between a coffee shop and a bookstore. To the average passerby, it looked like just another old building in the city. But as they approached, Jonathan uttered a quiet incantation, and the door shimmered before opening on its own.

Inside, the building revealed itself to be a sanctuary of magic. The Sanctum Sanctorum, a hidden fortress of knowledge and mystical artifacts. Alexander's eyes widened as he took in the vast collection of enchanted objects, from ancient relics to mystical scrolls.

"Welcome, Alexander," came a deep, resonant voice. The boy turned to see a tall figure draped in a flowing cloak of dark red. It was Doctor Stephen Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme.

"Doctor Strange!" Alexander exclaimed, bowing his head respectfully. "It's an honor to meet you."

"The honor is mine," Strange replied with a warm smile. "I've heard much about you from your parents. They speak highly of your potential."

Jonathan placed a hand on Alexander's shoulder. "Stephen has agreed to help guide you in your studies, Alex. There's much you can learn from him."

For the next few hours, Doctor Strange gave Alexander a tour of the Sanctum Sanctorum, explaining the significance of various artifacts and demonstrating spells that left the young boy in awe. The experience was overwhelming, yet exhilarating.

As they returned to the main hall, Strange turned to Alexander. "There is something I want to show you, something very important." He led them to a large, ornate mirror framed in gold.

"This is the Mirror Dimension," Strange explained. "A parallel reality where we can practice magic safely, without affecting the real world. It's a place where you'll face your greatest challenges and learn your most important lessons."

With a wave of his hand, Strange opened a portal into the Mirror Dimension. The world inside was a kaleidoscope of shifting landscapes and endless possibilities. Alexander stepped through the portal, his heart pounding with a mixture of fear and excitement.

Inside, the laws of physics seemed to bend and warp. Buildings twisted into impossible shapes, and the ground beneath their feet seemed to ripple like water. Strange demonstrated several spells, guiding Alexander through each one with patience and precision.

As they practiced, Alexander felt a surge of confidence. The power within him responded to the unique environment, flowing more freely and intuitively. Yet, despite the progress, there was an undercurrent of tension. The challenges in the Mirror Dimension were intense, pushing him to the limits of his abilities.

Hours passed in what felt like moments. When they finally returned to the Sanctum Sanctorum, Alexander was exhausted but exhilarated. He had glimpsed the vast potential of his magic, and he was eager to continue his training.

"You're a natural," Strange said, placing a hand on Alexander's shoulder. "But remember, power alone is not enough. Wisdom, control, and responsibility are what truly define a great sorcerer."

Alexander nodded, his mind buzzing with everything he had learned. "Thank you, Doctor Strange. I won't forget."

As Jonathan and Alexander left the Sanctum Sanctorum, the sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the city. They walked in comfortable silence, the weight of the day's experiences settling over them.

"Papa," Alexander said finally, "I want to learn everything. I want to be ready for whatever comes."

Jonathan smiled, pride evident in his eyes. "And you will, Alex. Together, we'll make sure you're prepared for anything."

But even as they returned to the familiar safety of their home, a shadow loomed over the horizon. Unseen and unknown, a dark force was gathering strength, its malevolent intent focused on the young sorcerer who had just taken his first steps into a much larger world.
