The entire film crew turned instinctively at the sound, eyes widening in shock. Owen spun around just as a strong gust hit him, a sharp knife aimed straight at his chest. The attacker was fast and sudden, leaving no room for evasion.
In that critical moment, Owen grabbed the knife with his hand, blood immediately dripping from his palm. Before Isaac and the others could react, Zuri dashed forward and kicked the assailant away, sending him crashing to the ground.
Zuri swiftly moved to subdue him, pinning his arms behind his back, rendering him immobile. The whole scene happened so quickly that the surrounding crew members were still in shock until Zuri's command jolted them back to reality.
"Two people, hold him down," Zuri ordered.
Director Zhang, both stunned and furious, shouted, "What are you standing around for? Go help!"
The crew finally snapped out of their daze, rushing forward to restrain the former stage manager, Xiao Jiang.
Farida and the others were astonished by Zuri's swift and efficient actions. From her initial warning to her decisive intervention, everything was executed perfectly.
Zuri approached Owen, concern etched on her face. "How's your hand?"
Owen opened his palm, revealing a deep, bloody gash. Blood oozed continuously from the wound.
Isaac, both shocked and enraged by the sight of the injury, called out, "Get the first aid kit!"
Director Zhang, seeing the severity of Owen's wound, anxiously commanded, "Call an ambulance, quickly."
Isaac shot a furious glare at Xiao Jiang but refrained from questioning him, knowing this would not be the end of it. Owen had been under his protection for years and had never sustained such an injury. His anger was palpable.
"Oh my god, the cut is so deep," Xiao Yun exclaimed, her face filled with pain and fear. "If it isn't treated properly, it might leave a scar."
The set doctor hurried over with a medical kit and began administering emergency treatment, cleaning the wound with hydrogen peroxide and applying a temporary bandage to stop the bleeding.
"This cut is too deep; he needs to get to the hospital immediately. If the tendons are damaged, there could be long-term consequences. We can't wait for an ambulance. We need to drive him there now."
"No," Zuri interrupted firmly.
Everyone looked at her, puzzled.
"To get to the nearest hospital, we have to pass by Feng Xiao Kindergarten. At this time of day, the road will be packed with parents picking up their kids. It'll be a traffic jam."
"Then what do we do? This wound can't wait. If we delay, and there are complications, who will be responsible?"
"Find a motorcycle or an electric scooter. I know a shortcut that will save us a lot of time," Zuri said calmly.
Isaac nodded. "Alright, we'll entrust Owen to you. You two go ahead, and we'll follow right behind."
Owen, who had been silently watching everyone handle the situation, finally spoke up, trying to ease their concern. "It's not that serious, really. No need to panic."
His words were met with disapproving glares and frowns from everyone around him. Owen shrugged helplessly, allowing them to proceed with their plan.
The crew quickly found a motorcycle. Zuri made sure both she and Owen wore helmets before speeding off.
As they left, Xiao Yun watched them go, still worried. "I'm still concerned. Director Zhang, I want to go and check on him."
With the day's events, filming was out of the question. Director Zhang waved her off.
Xiao Yun thanked him and left with her assistant, heading towards the set vehicles. As she passed by Xiao Jiang, she suddenly turned back and approached him.
"You shouldn't have done this. Losing your job is one thing, but why resort to violence? What good would it do if someone died today?" she scolded, her tone both angry and disapproving.
Xiao Jiang, his rage bubbling up, snarled, "Shut up! If it weren't for you, wanting those three out of the way, I wouldn't have been fired in the first place!"
He had chosen to attack Owen instead of Xiao Yun because he believed Owen was the reason the director had fired him, fearing him. He wanted revenge, to teach that superstar a lesson.
Embarrassed and angered by Xiao Jiang's outburst, Xiao Yun regretted stopping to reprimand him. She had hoped to show her concern for Owen, but now everyone was staring at her.
Her assistant chimed in, "Sister Yun, don't lower yourself to his level. He's like a mad dog now, ready to bite anyone. Let's stay away from this maniac."
Xiao Yun nodded, casting a contemptuous glance at Xiao Jiang.
Their derogatory comments only fueled Xiao Jiang's rage. He suddenly broke free from his restraints, grabbing a nearby fruit knife and lunging at Xiao Yun.
Someone noticed and shouted a warning.
"Watch out!"
Xiao Yun and her assistant turned to see Xiao Jiang charging at them with a knife. They froze in terror.
The sound of the knife slicing through flesh was chilling.
Xiao Yun looked down at the knife embedded in her abdomen, her eyes wide with disbelief.
"Die, you bitch!" Xiao Jiang roared, his eyes red with fury.
"Quick, restrain him and help her!" Director Zhang's voice was desperate.
Xiao Jiang ran before the crew could reach him. Xiao Yun, supported by her panicked assistant, bled profusely from her wound.
The scene was chaotic.
The students from Windsor Academy, witnessing such violence for the first time, were shaken.
"Is working in the entertainment industry always this dangerous?" Samara murmured.
"I was considering dabbling in the entertainment industry, but now… I think I'll pass. My life is more important," Natalie said, visibly shaken.
Twenty minutes later, an ambulance arrived, and Xiao Yun was rushed away.
Meanwhile, Zuri, driving at breakneck speed, arrived at the hospital with Owen.
As they dismounted, Zuri swiftly removed her helmet, noticing Owen struggling with his. She stopped him. "Don't take it off. Once you do, you're not getting it back on."
"I almost forgot. You're always so thoughtful," Owen said with a smile.
Zuri led him into the hospital, drawing curious stares from everyone they passed.
"Mommy, why is that man wearing a basketball on his head?" a little girl asked in a sweet, childish voice.
Her mother, amused, explained, "That's not a basketball, sweetie. It's a helmet. It looks like it's stuck."
Big-headed Owen felt utterly embarrassed.
Zuri stifled her laughter.
She tried not to laugh, but...
She couldn't help it. "Haha, big head!"
Owen, both amused and exasperated, watched her laugh. Her happiness was all that mattered.
At the nurse's station, the on-duty nurse glanced at Owen, unfazed. "Head too big and got stuck, huh?" she remarked, accustomed to such sights.
Zuri was about to explain when the plump nurse called out to the duty doctor, "Dr. Hong, someone's got their head stuck."
Her call turned everyone's attention to Owen, prompting a chorus of stifled laughter.
"How big must his head be to get stuck in a helmet?"
"I'm curious how he even got it on."
"He's truly a big-headed uncle."
Owen, usually meticulous about his image, felt deeply mortified by the remarks.
Dr. Hong approached, and Zuri quickly said, "It's not his head. We need help with his hand."
Dr. Hong glanced at the helmet and then at the tightly bandaged hand. "Come with me. If his head is fine, take off the helmet."
"Sorry, the helmet stays on for now," Owen insisted.
He wasn't about to remove the helmet and face more humiliation.
Dr. Hong didn't press the issue and began treating Owen's wound.
As the treatment progressed, Isaac and the others arrived. They burst into laughter at the sight of Owen with the helmet.
Owen, known for his immaculate image, was now a sight to behold, strolling around with a helmet. It was a rare and amusing sight.
Isaac and his team couldn't contain their laughter but stopped abruptly when they felt Owen's icy glare from inside the helmet.
At that moment, Isaac received a phone call, stepping outside to answer it. When he returned, his face was grim.
"Brother Zhou, what happened?" someone asked.
"Xiao Yun was attacked. She was stabbed by Xiao Jiang."
"What?" Everyone was stunned.
They hadn't witnessed the attack and were shocked by the news.
"Wasn't he restrained? How did he manage to hurt her?" an assistant wondered.
"He broke free from his bonds. Xiao Yun happened to be nearby, and he attacked her."
"Xiao Jiang has gone insane!"
No one had anticipated this turn of events. A stage manager had sent two main actors to the hospital, leaving the crew in disarray.
"Is it serious?" Zuri asked.
"It's quite bad. The knife went into her abdomen. We don't know the full extent of her injuries yet."
As they spoke, an ambulance siren wailed outside.
